8 Reasons You Need to Take Your Workout Outside
For aspiring pro cheerleaders, getting in shape is a top priority. One of the ways to achieve a great physique is through exercise.
There’s no denying the benefits of having a good workout when it comes to our health and fitness. Among these benefits are:
- Mood improvements
- Weight loss, muscle
- Bone-building
- Increased energy levels
- Reduced risks of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease
- Improved skin
- Better brain health and memory
- Better sleep quality
- Decreased chronic pain
When you think of exercise, the first thing that comes to mind is the gym.
I know a lot of people who are putting exercise on hold because they don’t have the time to go to a gym or don’t have the money to pay for membership.
Don’t get the wrong idea that getting and staying fit is expensive and time-consuming. There are other ways to get a good workout that won’t break the bank or make you travel a bit far.
Beyond the gym
You can go to the gym. There won’t be anyone to stop you but I want to talk about this option for when you can’t go because, hey! Circumstances won’t always allow us but that shouldn’t stop us from achieving our dream body. It’s also nice to take a break from the usual routine of exercising indoors. Here are the reasons why you should try to take your workout outside...
1. You can soak in Vitamin D
Exercising outdoors can get you a free dose of Vitamin D. You can’t get enough of that even if the gym equipment is placed by the window.
2. You get a change in scenery
Are you tired of the same old walls, mirrors, and other gym equipment? By working out outdoors, you can choose to do it in a park, around your neighbourhood or maybe on a trail.
3. It makes you creative
There won’t be treadmills, stationary bikes, dumbbells, and kettlebells when you’re outside, but without the luxury of gym equipment, you’ll learn to be more creative and practical. How about those monkey bars at the park?

You don’t just see the same old people in the gym. Not that it’s a bad thing, but isn’t people-watching exciting too sometimes? Get the chance to meet new people by joining outdoor group workouts.

Need I say more? There are no membership fees. Thank you, nature!
6. Your mind can also exercise
It’s exciting to workout when you’re in different terrain. You’re not just focused on the wall or the mirror like you do in the gym. How does it feel like to run on concrete, on grass, on the beach, up a hill or a mountain? What sounds do you hear? What scents can you smell? Your mind will constantly wander in a new environment.
7. You’ll get a stronger immune system
Have you heard of Japan’s forest bathing? If you haven’t then you must know that this practice is scientifically proven to boost your immune system, lower heart rate and reduce blood pressure. So go and soak up that greenery!

8. It will relax you
Nothing’s more relaxing than a change in the environment combined with fresh air. You’ll love the bigger space and the changing views far from stuffy cramped rooms.

Great! But before you head on to the great outdoors, here are a few things to remember:
- Bring your own water
- Wear sunscreen and a cap
- Avoid extreme temperatures
- Dress a little cooler so you have space to adjust when your body warms up. There are several quality workout clothes that are made of breathable and sweat-wicking material around these days.
