7 Fun Ways to Get Fit Without a Gym
Aspiring pro cheerleaders come from all walks of life. Not all of us have the money to afford expensive gym memberships. If not that, some of us don’t have the time to hit the gym. Or a few might find it boring or intimidating.
But don’t let that stop you!
Going to the gym is not the only way for you to get fit. I have nothing against signing up for a class or a gym membership. If the budget permits, by all means, please do.
It is, of course, great to have an instructor to guide you but I’m here to bust the misconception that you need to spend a lot of money to stay in shape. It need not be time-consuming, expensive nor boring. You can still achieve the physique that you need in time for pro cheerleading auditions even without going to a gym.
I have rounded up ways on how to do just that.
1. Take a walk and explore your city.
The gym can become boring. Same walls, same equipment, maybe even the same gym-goers every time you’re there. Walking is a great way to burn calories and a fun way to do it is by exploring your town or city. You’re not only walking and staying in shape but you’re also able to learn and discover new things about your area.
2. Join a fun run.
There are a lot of profit and nonprofit organizations who organize fun runs for good causes. You can get a good cardio workout plus meet new people. But it doesn’t need to be an organized marathon all the time, okay? You can make one for yourself. Run around the neighborhood and change your pace every block or every two lampposts. Your call. Do it for 30 to 45 minutes.
3. Go on a hike.
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but hiking spots have ranges of difficulties. If you’re a newbie, try minor mountains first. Hiking needs some preparation like how you need to do stretching first before working out, so make sure you do that before embarking on one. Enjoy the scenery and fresh air while you’re there. Plus there’s a sense of accomplishment once you reach the summit!
4. Head to the track.
Do you know what I don’t like about the treadmill? It’s that it becomes boring after a while since it’s getting me nowhere. Try heading out to a nearby track. Do speed challenges, so you can burn more calories.
5. Get fitness deals online.
There are tons of classes available online with discounts! If you can’t afford a full rate of that yoga or pilates class you’re eyeing, check deal sites like Groupon. You can score a class at a discount.
6. Use your mobile phone.
Technology even helps us with workouts these days. A fitness instructor is always great, but if you can’t have that, get an app that offers individually customized workouts and will hold you accountable when you skip a session.
7. Do home workouts.
And last, but not the least, you can always do home workouts. You don’t need expensive equipment. You can climb up and down the stairs. Use water bottles as weights. Do push-ups and crunches. There are a lot of chair exercises that you can do, as well. In fact, you can get free online workout resources, too!
You’ll be surprised how people think that the more expensive the gym package, the more fit you’ll be or the faster it will be to get in shape. Whatever workout you choose to do or wherever you choose to do it, it will largely depend on how religiously and how intensely you’re doing it. A good workout that will work for you is simply just something that you can commit to and actually do.
