How to Acknowledge and Appreciate Yourself More as an Aspiring Pro Cheerleader
Just a day ago, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Erin congratulated new team members as they started their uniform fittings. In an Instagram post, she reminds the ladies to be proud of themselves for making it to this day.
So I wanted to ask you a question — do you feel proud of yourself while undertaking this journey to becoming a pro cheerleader? Because while your audition prep journey has ups and downs, it’s important to realize how far you’ve come. Take pride in your accomplishments. Whether that’s sticking with your fitness, doing your best to be healthy, or joining a dance class, appreciate your effort.
In this blog post, I want you to develop a mindset of self-appreciation. Appreciating yourself allows for personal growth and the fulfillment of your dreams. It also enables you to maintain a healthy relationship with other people.
Put an end to self-criticism.
The way you talk to yourself can hinder you from reaching your goals. Maybe you tell yourself, “I’m going to mess up” or “I’m not good enough to be part of the team.” Stop! Know that you’re not alone, but you don’t have to remain a victim.
The first thing you need to do is pay more attention to your thoughts. Learn to recognize when you’re tearing yourself down. Before you believe your thoughts, challenge them. Because most of the time, they aren’t even true. Finally, replace these thoughts with positive realistic statements.

Be thankful for you.
Self-gratitude is a lesser known form of gratitude. We often talk about the importance of thanking others, but rarely do we consider thanking ourselves. Self-gratitude isn’t all about appreciating those BIG ACCOMPLISHMENTS such as graduating with honors or making the team.
It’s also about the SMALL THINGS YOU OFTEN TAKE FOR GRANTED… such as your decision to sleep early at night, your good health, or your ability to read (while you’re reading a pro cheer audition prep ebook). Time is also something to be grateful for. Every minute that you spend preparing for the audition is a step closer to your dream.
Take care of your body.
If someone told you that they like you but their actions say the opposite, would you actually believe them? I’m sure you claim to appreciate yourself — but make sure to translate it into action. If you don’t feel good inside, you’re less likely to keep working towards your goals or enjoy the opportunities that life offers.
Nourish your skin with good cosmetics. Wear clothes you love. Add an extra glass of water to what you’re already drinking. Get a dental check-up. Take a candlelit bubble bath. Go for a massage.
Final Thoughts
Here’s an action tip: Take a few minutes to reflect on the good things you’ve done and the lessons you learned in your pro cheer audition prep journey. Appreciating yourself creates a positive effect that spills over into other areas of your life. Watch what happens. You’ll be amazed.
