How To Be Gentle On Your Skin No Matter Your Skin Type
Our skin is our body’s largest organ. When it comes to keeping it healthy, the more we learn about it, the more we realize how complex it is. We at PRO CHEER LIFE have been putting a lot of emphasis on skincare routines and beauty products for that matter.
But when we watched the 7th episode of the 3rd season of Netflix’s Explained series, our perception of skincare changed. Despite that, we’re still able to find common grounds on methods of how to take care of your skin the right way. Here are the tips you should remember.
1. Eat foods rich in electrolytes and water
The main contributor to a moisturized skin is our body’s overall hydration. If we eat and drink sugary products, our body undergoes a hormonal imbalance that leads to cell inflammation and acne.
We highly suggest eating foods that moisturize your body from the inside out while helping your cells retain liquids with electrolytes. Examples are watermelon, avocado, and coconut water.
2. Always apply the right moisturizer, toner, and SPF
Soap, especially anti-bacterial soap, can erode our skin’s outer wall. This creates microscopic breakages that allow harmful bacteria to invade our body causing it to feel dry and itchy. And this defeats the purpose of our skin - the first and best line of defense against sickness.
By applying the right moisturizer after bathing, you allow your skin to repair the damaged wall and restore the moisture. Toners are essential in keeping your skin’s level of pH to normal - this makes it easy for healthy bacteria to survive on your skin’s surface and fight germs.
And SPF lotions or sunscreen are your best defense against the damaging effects of UV rays. No human is immune to prolonged solar exposure.
3. Use natural and organic soap
Speaking of soap, natural and organic varieties don’t use synthetic or harsh chemicals that kill your skin’s microbiome. Yet, they’re still able to clean your skin by getting rid of dirt, sebum, and oil that when combined could turn into whiteheads, blackheads, and acne.
4. Skip bathing and skincare at least once a week
On days where you don’t have any plans of going out, your body is less exposed to environmental pollutants that would irritate your skin. During these days, why not give your skin and the healthy bacteria a break by skipping bathing and your skincare routine altogether?
5. Avoid touching surfaces where strangers touch
Ever since the pandemic affected the whole planet, we have put a lot of emphasis on frequent hand washing. And the products we often use such as anti-bacterial soap and hand sanitizers have caused our hands to dry up and experience new problems.
Worse, they have killed our skin’s microbiome as collateral damage. If you really want your skin to stay clean and prevent viruses and germs from latching to your epidermis, we suggest wearing gloves. If you’ve tried handwashing your clothes and noticed your hands feel uncomfortable afterward, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
6. Stick to your natural skin tone
Changing your skin tone such as whitening or tanning is basically changing your physiology. And this results in serious consequences. Tanning speeds up your body’s aging process. Whitening products may contain mercury leading to poisoning. Beauty comes in different colors. Love yourself and stop believing in racist propaganda.
7. Don’t wear makeup unless necessary and use as few products as possible
Like environmental pollutants, makeup can also irritate your skin. That is why we have repeatedly advised not to wear makeup unless it’s absolutely necessary. And when you do wear makeup, wear a light style with products containing organic and natural ingredients. Avoid brands that have been known to use harmful chemicals.
Each of us has a unique skin type. We differ in genetics and the microbiomes living on our skin. Some of us require a simple skincare routine to be pretty while others need more than just 4 products. To be beautiful for the career of pro cheerleading in a safe and sure way, it’s best to consult with a dermatologist first.
