How To Break Down Your Pro Cheer And Dance Goals Into Manageable Steps
Pro cheerleading for the NFL and NBA, despite being a part-time profession, is one of the most challenging careers in the entertainment and sports industry. To be a good pro cheerleader, you need to be knowledgeable in the world of dancing, fitness, beauty, public relations, and self-improvement.
If you’re a student, mother, businesswoman, or if you work a full-time job, the best way to survive and fulfill your responsibilities in the arena and outside is to follow a solid pro cheer step-by-step plan.
Part of that plan is to simplify your goals and the ways on how to achieve them. To know what you should do to break down your objectives, read until the end of this article.
1. Use a notebook planner
Having a planner is essential for achieving your pro cheer goals efficiently. Using your phone as your personal assistant is okay but a planner is a much better option because it doesn’t distract you from your goals through notifications and enticing app logos.
Down your journey as a member of the pro cheer community, you can then use your planner as a platform to record the advice given by judges, squad coaches, and peers on things you need to improve on.
2. Write your pro cheer needs down
Once you’ve bought a planner, write everything you need as a pro cheerleader down. The things that you don’t have and struggle to acquire comes first. Don’t know the things you need for pro cheerleading? Refer to this checklist:
- Self-confidence
- Positive and cheerful character
- Professional attitude
- Makeup mastery
- Fit and sexy physique
- Strong and flexible body
- High stamina and endurance
- Beautiful skin and hair
- Keen sense on the art of dancing
- Good sense of hygiene
- Document requirements
You can also use this list as a table of contents for your planner so that you can easily navigate it as you execute your plans.
3. Make a list of different ways you can acquire or develop them
With each item on your pro cheer needs list, you must have a variety of strategies on how to achieve them. For example, under the fit and sexy physique section, it must be followed by a detailed step-by-step list of workouts you should do and the foods or recipes you should eat.
4. Schedule and set a deadline for everything
As a follow-up to #3, the detailed lists and your goals must have their corresponding schedules and deadlines. Let’s say that under the scope of your diet, there must be a certain day of the week for you to do groceries and meal prep.
Then, one specific recipe should be prepared for “dinners” on “these days.” It’s important that you should also have a rest day once a week so you get to do other activities that you love. Usually, this day should be the day you have your cheat meal.
Finally, for your deadline, it must be realistic to achieve. The length of time you should accomplish your goals depends on how busy you are and the amount of resources you possess at your disposal.
Don’t set a deadline that’s impossible to achieve. You’ll only induce a state of pressure and panic and that could lead to all your plans falling apart. Worse, you could get discouraged and quit altogether.
5. Eliminate non-essential activities from your daily routine
Now that you’re preparing for a pro cheer audition or are already a squad member, expect your schedule to be busier than before. This is the time when you should look at your daily, weekly, and monthly routine and set a flow of tasks based on the hierarchy of their importance.
Your main career or studies should come first and your pro cheer tasks as second. Other activities such as going to the mall just for the sake of it or going for a night out are irrelevant and should be eliminated or minimized. This strategy will give you more time to complete to achieve the goals that really matter in your life.
6. Seek help from others in fulfilling your other responsibilities
We know some of your readers are mothers and you don’t just have your main job, business, and pro cheerleading to worry about but also your responsibilities at home. We highly suggest that you get outside help. If this option is unavailable, you can talk to your partner to share some of the household tasks.
7. Take your time and enjoy the process
If you have successfully done #1 to #6, congratulations on making it this far. Now the only thing you need to do is to be patient, stick to the plan you’ve laid out, and have fun on the journey of pro cheerleading. Change doesn’t happen overnight and rushing to see results can lead to undesirable consequences.
Please bear in mind that everything won’t always go 100% according to your plan. It’s important to make contingencies just in case. A good example would be readying a set of no-equipment cardio workouts for home if the weather outside is bad.
