How to Build Healthy Habits That Last (In Preparation for the Auditions and Beyond)
You have learned many different ways to prepare for the auditions. But there are also tons of factors that could either distract or discourage you from succeeding in the auditions. What needs to be done to help you stick to the audition preparation plan? What techniques will actually make the healthy habits you’ve already started, last?
1. Find happiness in being fit
One thing that makes us quit our fitness habits is that we treat them as some forced responsibility. What you should do instead is to treat fitness as your passion. Make it your goal to enjoy eating healthy or going to the gym. Get excited for your next workout.
2. Hold yourself accountable
We work harder when we’re accountable to someone like a coach. Accountability enforces a positive habit like making sure that we go to the gym on time. But what happens if that person whom you feel accountable to isn't around? Work on your audition preparation because you told yourself to and not because your coach told you so.
3. Seek motivation internally and externally
Motivating yourself to prepare for the auditions can go a long way. But if you get motivated by external factors like inspirational people and their advice, your habit of staying fit and following your audition preparations gets enforced even more.
4. Ditch the all or nothing mindset
Perfection is a bad habit. That’s because when you’re a perfectionist, a single mistake can cause everything to crumble apart, causing you to want to quit. If you fail to perform a workout routine or got absent from a gym session, do your best to make up for what you missed. Don’t feel sorry or defeated, strive to do better!

5. Record your fitness progress
Keeping track of your audition preparation achievements changes your behavior. How? This challenges you to keep on breaking your current boundaries and sets you gunning for more until it becomes a never-ending journey. Hence, a healthy habit that lasts.
6. Understand that small steps account for larger victories
Small and steady wins the race. Don’t focus your mind on the whole. It can be overwhelming especially if you compare how small your progress is to how big your goals are. If you focus on taking one step at a time, you won’t notice until you’ve already finished the line.
7. Set long-term goals
When you’re done with your audition goals in #6 which are short-term, aim for something longer to achieve. Like #5, the confidence of success makes you strive for more. Once you’ve achieved your long-term goals, aim for much longer ones. Repeat until you turn fitness into a part of yourself.
8. Don’t focus solely on external improvements
If you want to be fit for the sake of fitting into your dream jeans, then your fitness habit is done once that happens. Don’t focus on what fitness does to your external appearance only, but also focus on what it does to your mind, health, and those around you as well. This will help you retain healthy fitness habits even when you’ve already achieved what you wanted.
9. Establish a stimulus
One thing that can prompt you to act subconsciously is to take cues from environmental stimuli. It can be a public service announcement alarm or the start of that scheduled afternoon news. You might find yourself one day in the future suddenly dropping to the floor for push-ups because you heard the theme music of the 4 o’clock news.
10. Learn the art of finding the reverse to your negative habits
Identify what bad habits you have that hinder a good lifestyle. Find the remedy to that. Make it your default reaction to reverse unhealthy habits so that when you have one, you can immediately correct it.
These are just some of the many strategies to make healthy habits last. Starting today, I want you to dwell on the positive effects of fitness on your body. When these habits are ingrained in your daily life, they do not only help you make the team but also become a better person.
