How to Create and Maintain a Positive Attitude
Professional cheerleading and dance teams want candidates who have a positive attitude. If you try to check team audition requirements on a team page, you will see this requirement — “a positive attitude.” But what does a positive attitude mean and why does it matter?
A positive attitude is a state of mind that looks forward to good things. A candidate who has a positive attitude:
- Believes in favorable outcomes
- Recognizes opportunities in any situation
- Focuses on accomplishments than on failures
- Shows willingness to try new things
Based on these definitions, it’s clear that positivity leads to team success. This explains why your dream team needs you to have this kind of attitude. But let’s be real: It takes time to develop it. Positivity isn’t automatic. It takes work and practice to make it a habit.
In this article, I’m going to share five tips that you can follow.
1. Keep in mind that your attitude is up to you.
You get to decide how to respond to what happens to you. Attitude doesn’t come from your circumstances (which you have little control over). Rather, it comes from how you interpret those circumstances.
2. Learn to see the best in others.
If you look for positivity in someone, you will find it. It doesn’t matter if it’s your co-worker, family member, or people within your online community. Find 3 good qualities in someone. See how this changes your relationship with them.
3. Fill your mind with positive affirmations.
Positive affirmations are statements that will help you overcome negative thoughts. When you talk yourself into believing that you’re more than enough, then you’ll begin to act differently. Dwelling on your best qualities will increase your self-confidence and help you perform better.
Here are examples of positive affirmations:
- I believe in the person I dream of becoming.
- I choose faith over fear.
- I have the power to make today a great day!
- Life is tough, but so am I.
- The day is filled with possibilities.
4. Choose your battles wisely.
Maybe you’ve heard of the saying, “Choose your battles.” This means being selective of the problems that you participate in. The reality is, not everything is worth your attention. Whenever a problem arises, ask, “Is this really important? Is it worth worrying about in my life?” It will help to consider the long-term impact of participating in that problem. Weigh the cost vs the benefits.
5. Relish the tiny victories.
We often treasure those big events in our lives — marriage, birthdays, and anniversaries. But what about the small accomplishments that happen daily? Take time to savor each little win. It could be that 30-minute workout or the opportunity to eat a healthy meal. If you can share your wins with others, do that as well. It will not only reinforce your positive behavior, but it will also motivate them!
Your attitude towards life can affect the success of your professional cheer/dance team, which is why it’s so important. I hope these five tips help you become more positive! Positivity always shines through.
