How to Detox Acne Away in 8 Steps

Do you feel frustrated that no matter what you do, acne keeps showing up? You want to look amazing on the BIG day, and the months after that. As an aspiring professional cheerleader, you know that appearance matters. It’s one of the things the judges consider. Having clear skin during the auditions boosts your self-confidence and makes you more attractive.

The thing with acne is that it’s difficult to hide. While the right makeup does the trick, nothing beats a naturally clear skin. In this article, we’re going to deal with acne holistically, starting with your diet.

Drink more water.

Are you drinking enough water? If you’re dealing with acne, most likely you prefer to drink more sweetened beverages. Increasing water consumption may seem like a boring advice (like, just that?) but remember that water comprises 50% of your body. It transports the nutrients you eat throughout your system and eliminates toxins. Your water intake should reach about 2.7 liters or 11.5 cups.

Avoid dairy products.

Dairy has gotten a bad rap in the skincare industry. Many professionals, for example, registered dietician Maria A. Bella, claim that the amount of dairy you consume can be related to your skin problems. Because one thing she can attest to is that people who’ve eliminated dairy from their diet have amazing skin. Hormones that are found in milk react with yours and cause inflammation.

Quick fix: Fresh lemon juice.

If an occasional pimple shows up unexpectedly, what I would do is apply a drop of fresh lemon and allow it to dry up. Lemon is an inexpensive and fast way to deal with rare pimples. Lemon has cleansing properties and reduces redness. They say that lemon also reduces the likelihood of scarring. Just note that the acid in lemon may cause your pimples to sting.

Fix nutritional deficiencies.

Vitamin deficiency is not something that always comes to mind when talking about acne. One of the reasons why pimples keep popping up is that you lack certain nutrients in your diet. Nutrients that support a healthy skin, promote wound healing, and have anti-inflammatory properties are the following: Vitamins A and E, Zinc, Selenium, and vitamin E. You can get these nutrients in these foods: Brazilian nuts, grass-fed beef, avocados, spinach, sunflower seeds, and whole grains.

Manage your blood sugar levels.

Insulin is an important hormone. It is released by your body in response to an increase in your blood sugar levels, which happens when you eat a meal. Too much sugar in your bloodstream, as when you consume more sugary foods or when you’re extremely stressed out, creates spikes in insulin. When insulin spikes, the sebaceous glands in your skin become more active. More sebum can clog your pores.

Avoid harsh soaps and cleansers.

Some soaps and cleansers do more harm than good to your skin. They may sound like a good treat but may leave your skin dry and uncomfortable. Use mild products that gently remove dirt from your skin but won’t strip off its moisture. Look for the labels hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. Eliminate products that are abrasive such as facial scrubs. If you choose products that contain benzoyl peroxide, go for lower concentrations.

Change your pillowcase more often.

You can drink more water, eat more leafy greens, and apply the best acne treatments but see only little results. Your pillowcase could be to blame. Over time, pillowcases harbor oil, dirt, and bacteria which can all transfer to your face as you sleep. Cotton, silk, and satin pillowcases are common culprits. Take preventive measures like washing your pillowcases every 2 days or using natural fabrics.

Give your treatments 2 months.

The only way to tell that a skin product works well for you is to give it enough time. This tip is applicable if you are still months or a year away from the auditions. Two months is enough for you to experience the benefits or downsides of a topical skin product. Switching too soon doesn’t help.
