How to Mentally Prepare Yourself for YOUR BIG DAY
Do you know why some pro cheer audition candidates thrive under pressure and deliver a great performance while others tremble? Mental preparation makes all the difference.
A challenge can get pretty overwhelming if you don’t get your thinking straight. It’s important to get a hold of your mind because if you don’t, random thoughts can surface and these thoughts can be negative.
Today, Pro Cheer Life shares 7 ways to mentally prepare yourself so that you can show your best on your big day. Check them out:
7 Ways to Mentally Prepare Yourself for Pro Cheer Auditions
1. Break it down
Breaking down big goals or long term goals makes them easier to think of. For example, if you have a fitness goal to target in a month, like losing weight, break it down into smaller steps. What will your daily routine look like? What modifications will you make to your schedule?

2. Accept the possibility of mistakes or not making the team
So you’re going to shoot for that massive goal of becoming a professional cheerleader. One important thing you should do is to accept that failure is possible. Look at failure as a positive thing. Failure teaches you growth.
3. Be your biggest cheerleader
We often seek the approval of our friends and family. We look to them for support and encouragement. This can be detrimental to your success because the truth is, you can’t control people’s opinions. Being your own best cheerleader is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how little they are.
4. Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that can happen?”
Here’s a technique that will prepare you for the big event… Think about the audition day and try to imagine the worst possible scenario that could happen. This builds up anticipation so you know what to prevent. Next, ask yourself what you can do if the “worst scenario” still happens. Rehearse that at home.
5. Use positive self-talk
Positive is a powerful strategy that brings out the good in the bad. Intentionally take a moment to counteract anything negative that enters your mind with good truths in life. Do this while you workout, rehearse your dance routine, on your way to the audition venue, and moments before you introduce yourself to the judges.
6. Have a pre-performance ritual
Tony Robbins is a renowned performance coach. One of the best pieces of advice he teaches is priming. Priming is the act of adjusting your emotions and thoughts so you can give your all in an event or a job, regardless of whether you had a terrible day yesterday or are in a bad mood.
7. Rehearse success in your mind
You can use your mind power to accomplish anything you want. Paint a clear mental image of success in your mind. Imagine dancing gracefully and enthusiastically in front of the judges. Imagine being called to proceed to the final round.
Takeaway Message
Mental preparation maximizes performance. Follow these tips and see yourself succeed on the big day. If you don’t make the team, embrace the lessons you gain and promise yourself to do better next time. Need more advice? Check out more of our blog posts.
