How to Prepare Your Skin for Spring (for Healthy and Glowing Skin)

Winter is ending and spring is next. The surface on the northern hemisphere of our planet transitions from a cold icy blanket into a greener one. Along with this seasonal change is also our skin’s need for a change in care routines.

That said, here are tips on preparing your pro cheer skin to let it appear blooming along with the flowers greeting the springtime sun.

1. Swap out moisturizers with water-based products

When your skin notices a temperature change in the environment, it can react. These reactions involve bumps, redness, blackheads, and other forms of nastiness. To prevent them, you need to change your petrolatum or oil-based moisturizer formulas with ones that use water.

2. Keep exfoliating

As the environment warms, your skin sheds more dry tissues on the outer epidermis. Exfoliating encourages a healthy skin-cell turnover, making it look glowing. In addition to that, this prevents dead skin cells from clogging up your pores which is the main cause of acne.

3. Include SPF in your pre-outdoor skincare routine

Since the sun is out in spring, your skin will need extra protection from the increased amounts of ultraviolet rays. If you were using a lotion with a low SPF level, you need to buy another one with a protection amount of 30 to 49. This is an essential tip to follow if you don’t want to experience premature skin aging.

4. Lighten your makeup

In the winter, we need to wear heavy makeup to avoid looking pale or as if we were caught in a snowstorm. But if we use the same application routine in spring, our faces could look strangely shiny. For example, instead of using a powder-type foundation, choose creamier versions. This won’t just give that in-season appearance, it will also allow your skin to breathe. Thus, less sweating.

5. Boost vitamin application

Aside from using cosmetics with SPF, nourish your skin with antioxidants by applying serums, especially those rich in vitamins A, C, and E. This tip will protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals while strengthening its barrier and dealing with skin tone imbalances.

6. Buy anti-itch and anti-inflammatory products

For women prone to allergies, never forget about eczema and hives. Spring is that time of the year when plants release pollen into the air. And once they touch your skin, you could be itching or feeling stings all over your body.

While there is no way to prevent skin allergies caused by pollen, you can minimize the problem by bathing once you get home and applying anti-allergy creams. Additional tip: Wear face masks and sports sunglasses for protection from nasal and eye allergies.

Skin problems are your greatest concern during spring as most pro cheer teams conduct auditions at this time of the year. And keep in mind that appearances are greatly valued by judges. But since you’ve read this blog post, your chances of attending a tryout with near-perfect preparation just increased.
