How to Sharpen Your Focus Today (and Get Closer to Your Pro Cheer Audition Goals)
I bet you would agree that to set goals is easy. Implementing those goals is the hard part. When you’re striving to become the woman that the judges would call “a real potential pro cheerleader,” a lot of things try to distract you - doubts you have about yourself, a busy schedule, and basically anything!
You may think they matter but at the end of the day, what’s most important is how you get past these distractions - because that’s how you get results. In this guide, I’m going to share ways to increase your focus.
Envision your practice before you start.
In order to reach a goal, it’s important to visualize it before you get to work. Think about the steps to make a goal happen. For example, if you want to improve your flexibility, picture out yourself doing stretching exercises. Replaying the process in your mind over and over again solidifies your commitment. By “seeing” the future, you believe in it.
Focus on one thing at a time.
Imagine this scenario. At 3:00 PM, you’re researching your dream pro cheer team, doing the laundry, checking YouTube videos of your dream team’s dance performances. Basically, you’re unable to maximize one task. One of the most important productivity tools is monotasking. Block off time from distractions and just focus on one task. Need to do some team research? From 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM, do just that. Related: Here’s How to Calendar Your Way to Pro Cheer Success (Monday-Sunday Routine)
Do it as early in the day as possible.
Before the sun rises, make sure that you’ve already spent time on your pro cheer preparation. Anything pertaining to professional cheerleading - working out, reading a professional cheerleading audition secrets book, or honing your Hip-Hop dance skills. This is one way to start the day right and feeling more confident knowing that you’ve worked on your goals before everyone else did!
Get them off your mind.
A pen and paper - these are all you need to get your focus back. When you find yourself unable to concentrate because there are too many thoughts in your brain (Like “Oh, I need to do the dishes first before I workout,” “Will I do a HIIT workout tomorrow or strength training? How about yoga?”) transfer all these distracting thoughts on paper to empty your mind for working on your goals. Whatever thought is bothering you, write it down. Then put that piece of paper away and come back to it later when you’re done with your pro cheer preparation work.
Similarly, journal your pro cheer prep. You can have a workout journal or food diary. Check out my post on 5 Easy Methods to Track Your Fitness Progress.
