Now That Pro Cheer Auditions Are Over, Do This

As you look at the faces of aspiring pro cheerleaders whose names have been called by the judges, you can’t help but think what it must feel like. Those girls must be in the same classes you took. Perhaps it was their second audition and it was your ninth. But what you need to know is, each has her own time.

Now that this year’s auditions are closed, what’s next? We have some tips for you. Let’s bring it on.

1. Thank You, Next

You have to put things in perspective of what’s to come. If you are determined to become a pro cheerleader, then you will not let a failed audition be your last.

Look forward because now you have a whole year to get ready for your next shot at making your dream a reality.

2. Validate Your Feelings

It helps to have a support group who you can turn to during times when you feel crushed. Be with the social circle who supports your dreams, who understands the sacrifices you make for this dream.

Somewhere before or after you talk with your support group (whichever you feel most comfortable), take the time to listen to your emotions.

Now we don’t mean listening to your inner critic. If you have to write down your feelings, do so. This will serve as a reminder for you and motivation in the future when you’re having second thoughts about pro cheerleading (there are tough times too, even for those who’ve made it).

3. Reflect on Your Performance

If you can talk to the coach to get feedback, do so. It would be helpful to know what you need to focus on to prepare for the next auditions. Your friends at the audition may also have feedback about your performance.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to key persons. But you should also self-reflect and be honest with how you really did during the audition.

4. Consider How Well You Prepared for This

Did you sign up for prep classes from the team? Do you feel toned enough? Did you consider your hair and makeup choice? How about your outfit?

There are so many aspects to pro cheerleading auditions that it can be easy to fall into the cracks in any of them.

When you audition, you have to come fully-prepared and if you feel your lack of preparation failed to get you the spot you wanted, then it’s time to re-think your strategy.

5. Listen and Learn from Your Mistakes

When your determination for a certain team has gotten you nowhere after many attempts, then consider deeply how well you listen to feedback.

It can be frustrating to see aspiring pro cheerleaders fail again and again because they bring nothing new to the table.

Take feedback constructively, even negative ones. Use them to your advantage by learning from them and making changes to what you did before.

6. Time to Make a Change

Then again, maybe it’s time to re-think your career path. Should it really be this team? Perhaps, you’ll gain more practice, feedback, and experience by auditioning for local teams first.

Other teams may be looking for your skills and appearance, and there you are auditioning for a team who is looking for something else.

7. Never Stop Improving

There is always a better version of you, remember that. Your goal in preparation for next year is to improve your skills as well as your appearance.

Work on achieving healthier skin and hair. Do more strength-training exercises. Sign up for those prep classes and for a dance class or two.

Improve in every way you can, considering the feedback you gained from your mentors and from your self-reflection.

Parting Thoughts

You can choose to remain optimistic because after all, that’s what cheerleaders are known for.

Reflect on the past audition but don’t dwell on it. Use what you have learned from this audition to improve yourself in preparation for next year.

And don’t forget to enjoy the process. This entire journey can be fun if you choose it to.
