Should You Workout In The Morning Or Afternoon? 4 Benefits Of Each
During one of our breaks the other day, one of PRO CHEER LIFE’s team members noticed that some pro cheer squads were releasing information about their members on Instagram. And those roster information showed that there were pro cheerleaders who happen to be morning larks and night owls.
What does this mean? It means some members of the pro cheer community prefer to workout during the afternoon, as opposed to exercising in the morning which we often suggest. But that doesn’t mean working out in the afternoons is bad. In fact, there are also benefits to it just as morning routines do.
If you’re still confused about when you should work out, this is the blog post that will help you decide on which part of the day you should get active.
Benefits of Morning Workouts
1. More energy throughout the day
Morning exercise boosts your metabolism. It jumpstarts your system into spending more of your energy reserves than what your body normally uses throughout the day with no morning workout. As a result, you’re better at prioritizing tasks, more alert, focused, and energized.
2. Better weight loss
Because your metabolism is boosted, you’ll also burn more fat throughout the day. This is particularly useful for women who are new to a lifestyle of fitness and those who are back after a hiatus of being active and want to lose extra pounds.
3. Better consistency
The problem with afternoon workouts is we usually lose our motivation to move after a long day. Additionally, there are also a lot of things that could happen which messes with an afternoon workout schedule. Whereas morning workouts where everyone is usually free, it’s easier to commit to such a schedule.
4. It’s easier to sleep at night
Once your energy is spent during the day, you’ll find it easier to relax at night and hit the hay. Your sleep quality is also good because you’re too tired to wake up in the middle of the night due to some slight disruptions.
Benefits of Afternoon Workouts
1. Better performance
Your body is already warmed up during daytime activities even if you woke up at noon. Because of that, you have more natural energy which increases your workout performance. And if you’re a morning lark who prefers to get active from 2 to 6 pm, you’ll have all the energy you’ll need to finish more reps, sets, and laps than those who work out in the morning.
2. Better results
As a follow-up to better performance due to an entire day’s worth of warming up, your body also receives better physical results. This is the same reason why gyms are mostly crowded in the afternoons by bodybuilders and those who are looking to tone their muscles.
3. You’re less likely to get injured
Because your body is already warmed, it is more flexible, agile, and fluid. When it comes to your mental state, your reaction time is also quicker. These are all the ingredients that constitute a safe fitness session and afternoon gym-goers tend to report fewer injuries than their morning counterparts.
4. Greater impact on mental health
Daytime activities cause a lot of stress. If you come home complaining about something then you know exactly what we’re talking about. Afternoon workouts are a good way to blow off some steam and it’s one of the best strategies to employ if you want to call it a day de-stressed.
Which is the best time to work out? Our answer would be, “Anytime you can!” It all boils down to your preference and the benefits you want to reap. You can be a morning person who prefers to exercise in the afternoon or be a night person who prefers to get active in the morning. What really matters is that you can complete your weekly fitness goals as part of your pro cheer routine.
