How to Speed Up Your Metabolism Naturally

Metabolism is a term that comes from the Greek word metabole, meaning change. Depending on the rate of your metabolism may it be fast or slow, your body also changes in appearance and how it feels. Bodies with faster metabolic rates tend to be more lean and energetic while slower ones are chubby and easily exhausted despite the similarity in food choices and eating habits.

As an aspiring pro cheerleader, you need to have fast metabolism for higher energy and an athletic body. Discover what metabolism is, how it works, and how to speed it up through natural ways here.

What Is Metabolism?

Metabolism is the chemical reaction in our body that converts the food we eat and drink into fuel. For metabolism to happen, calories that are found in our food are combined with oxygen for energy release.

We then use this converted fuel to perform daily activities such as workouts, pro cheer activities, and audition preparation. The higher our metabolism is, the more energy we have to perform our daily activities with quality.

Metabolism is also important in weight control. A high metabolic rate means that calories are easily spent and lesser fat is stored in the body. This means that increasing your metabolic rate makes weight loss and weight maintenance easier without the need for reducing food consumption.

Can You Increase Your Metabolism?

Yes, you can increase metabolism. According to NCBI studies, you can increase your metabolism through exercise, increased hydration, caffeine intake, and supplements. However, there are more ways to increase your metabolism and it’s better to take the natural path.

6 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism Naturally

1. Start your day early

Sleep early, rise early. Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Turn off all your devices an hour and a half before going to bed. You’ll have more energy and more time to prepare for all your tasks the next day.

2. Take time to move at work or while studying

Whether you’re sitting at the desk at home, work, or school, don’t forget to stand up, stretch, and move around. Taking frequent breaks for movement will signal your body to create fuel at all times even when you’re resting.

3. Don’t diet but eat healthily

Don’t skip breakfast for a hearty breakfast is your primary energy source for the morning until lunch. Instead of reducing your food intake for the day, choose healthier food sources like cruciferous vegetables, fruits, and red meat. Then serve yourself proper portions for lunch and dinner. Eat only what you need to avoid fat storage.

4. Make exercise regular

As a follow-up to waking up early, you should also make a habit of working out in the morning. Regular morning exercise jumpstarts your metabolism throughout the day. You also get to burn the calories you’ve metabolized from last night’s dinner.

5. Drink cold water

Drinking cold water makes your body produce heat to raise the water to body temperature and this heating up process uses energy. This tip may not burn a lot of calories, but it can help you shed some weight with minimum effort. Better yet, drunk cold infused water.

6. Eat spicy food

Capsaicin, the compound that gives chili its heat can also fire up your metabolism by raising your body’s temperature according to a study. Invest first in low heat sauce, chili powder, and other spices for cooking.

Then work your way to condiments with higher Scoville heat units. Spicy food can also be a good stress reliever because the heat triggers a rush of endorphins. You might find yourself loving spicy food which is also beneficial because it means all your meals are prepared to be metabolism-raising.

Metabolic rates in people differ based on genetics and age. If your family members are slim despite their food choices and eating habits, you might be in the genetic pool of people with high metabolisms. However, as you age, your metabolism might also slow down. If you feel that your metabolism is slowing down, just follow the tips above.
