Signs That You're Going Overboard with Your Workouts
Let me ask you a question: Do you think you're exercising too much?
As an aspiring pro cheerleader, you know how important working out is not just for your physique, but also for your health. But some candidates ramp it too much especially when they want quick results or they've experienced a plateau.
But overexercising has dangers. It decreases your overall energy and can make you lose motivation. Overexercise also increases your risk of overuse injuries due to repetitive trauma. There is also evidence that it can weaken your immune system.
Too much of anything can be bad for you indeed.
What are the common signs and symptoms of overexercising?
Pay attention to these telltale signs that you may be working out too much in your audition prep!
1. Changes in your mood
Working out is supposed to make you feel good inside. Yet, overdoing it can put a damper on your mood. You're often irritable, anxious, and just emotionally stressed out. When you're physically overloaded, your mood suffers too.
2. Ravenous or loss of appetite
If your appetite has decreased or you're eating more than you should, your workout could be the culprit. I often ask aspiring pro cheerleaders at the start of their audition prep journey to pay attention to their appetite and hunger based on their workout regimen.
3. You lose interest in exercising
Exercising for pro cheer auditions should be a fun experience - something to look forward to! But when you're going too far, you tend to lose interest. You know how important staying motivated is to reach your audition fitness goals.

4. Hair loss
High level exercise can make your hair fall out. Why? Here's the explanation: When your body undergoes too much stress, your hair follicles enter a resting state prematurely which leads to shedding of hair. Another cause of hair loss is insufficient protein to fuel your workouts.
5. You equate your workouts with your attractiveness
Do you have thoughts like, "If I don't exercise today, I'm going to look bloated tomorrow!" As a result, you cancel important plans with people for the sake of being able to workout (even if you did five times already during the week.) Often, you exercise to compensate for what you've eaten.
Final Thoughts
We have different bodies and therefore, we respond differently to workouts. Regardless, it's important to allow your body to rest and recover. Pay attention to your nutrient needs as well. You could be overexercising and neglecting your diet. Make exercise enjoyable and a rewarding experience!
