Small Diet Tweaks That Lead to Big Results

The goal of achieving a healthy weight loss is a tough nut to crack. There is no magic bullet to significant, real results - only good choices, consistency, and commitment. 

The truth is, a lot of women who want to lose weight badly to be able to perform their best during the pro cheer auditions experiment with fad diets. Or if you happen to be a current or alumni pro cheerleader, you may also have personal struggles with weight.

By making small changes to your diet, you will see results. These results won’t definitely occur overnight but your progress over time will teach you the right attitude. Most importantly, you’ll be able to keep your weight off long term.

1. Identify one thing that you are willing to give up.

I repeat… just one thing. What’s that food that does you more harm than good and you’re ready to avoid today? That can be anything from sweetened drinks to chocolates to white bread. Eliminating one food or drink, especially if it’s something you consume more often, also helps you overcome other bad cravings because you’re put in a better mindset.

2. Always have fresh foods in the fridge.

When it’s time to go to the grocery, make sure to stop by the produce section. Fresh or whole foods are always superior to processed options. You get nutrients without the excess fat and sugar. Plus, seeing them compels you to spend time for healthy meal prep - which is a good step to achieving your pro cheer goals!

3. Get a smaller plate.

Do you normally eat off a larger plate? Here’s what you need to know. Using a smaller plate is an effective means of tricking your mind into eating less without really realizing it. So instead of forcing yourself to eat a smaller meal at home, use a smaller plate that’s full. This concept is based on the visual perception bias called the Delboeuf Illusion.

4. Start your day with a good breakfast.

Several studies have demonstrated that starting your day with a healthy breakfast helps you achieve weight loss. Breakfast allows your body to turn up the thermogenesis process and boost your metabolism. By eating breakfast, you also avoid impulsing snacking as a result of your blood sugar levels dropping too low. Easy-to-prepare and nutritious choices include whole grain cereal and a piece of fruit, fruit smoothie and whole-wheat toast, and avocados with eggs.

5. Switch to whole grains.

Whole grain foods are an essential step to weight loss because they have a lower glycemic index. People who eat low grains have a reduced risk of getting diabetes. You will also notice that you consume fewer calories without trying too hard. This is because whole grains take a longer time to digest, thus making you feel fuller.
