What to Do the Night Before a Pro Cheer/Dance Audition
Pro cheer and dance auditions can make all of us nervous. As the audition day draws nearer, our anxiety levels increase. No matter how well you prepared for this special day of your life, you still can’t get over those audition nerves.
I know that a lot of women are curious about what they should do the night before an audition. How you prepare during this time may impact your performance. Obviously, cramming is a no-no. Here are last-minute, “the night before” tips that help. Keep reading.
1. Don’t over practice.
There is no amount of practice that will improve your pro cheer or dance audition performance. By now, you should have mastered your freestyle dance, interview answers to possible questions, and stage entrance. If you practice too much, you might end up fatigued or getting injured. If you really want to move your body, warming up your muscles by doing some light stretching helps.
2. Stick to familiar foods.
Don’t change your diet just because tomorrow is audition day. Eat your usual dinner and breakfast. Experimenting with new foods that have very different macros, such as foods that are fattier than usual or foods that contain more carbohydrates, may cause stomach upset and diarrhea. If possible, cook your own foods. Prepare them ahead and simply reheat them to save time.

3. Take deep breaths to help you fall asleep.
Deep breathing is a proven way to calm your nerves so you can fall asleep faster. Proper, quality sleep before the audition day reduces your stress and helps you maintain a positive mindset. Most importantly, it boosts your performance physically and mentally!
Practice this diaphragmatic breathing technique for three to five minutes: Rest one hand over your chest and the other hand over your abdomen. Inhale for 5 seconds. Pause a bit. Now, exhale for another 5 seconds.
4. Check all the things you need to bring.
Pack the materials you need for the audition such as your identification, completed audition application and waiver, make-up for retouches, snacks, bottled water, and a face towel or wipes. It would be great to have a checklist so you don’t miss anything. You don’t want to be calling your parents or driving back home from the audition venue to retrieve something.
5. Set your alarm.
Have ample time to get yourself ready and travel to the venue. Make sure that you arrive an hour or 30 minutes before the registration starts. The key is to wake up early if the first round takes place in the morning! Set an alarm on your phone and place your phone on the opposite side of the room.
6. Fill your mind with positive thoughts.
Avoid negative thinking at all costs. Push negative energies aside and focus on the great things that could happen on your big day. Believing that you can make your team will keep you motivated to give your very best. Speak energetic words to yourself. “You can do it!!” “Be yourself!” Listen to a positive thinking podcast episode. Practice loving kindness meditation. Say a prayer!
Conclusion
Let go of all worries. Use the night before an audition as an opportunity to get your mind right. Follow all these tips. Don’t forget to thank yourself for your hard work! No matter the audition outcome, be glad that it happened.
