What to Do When Pro Cheer Prep Becomes Overwhelming

It’s true that women can do anything. But even the most energetic of us can be overwhelmed in our daily lives. Especially if pro cheer preparation tasks add up to motherhood, career, or academic responsibilities. So what should you do when everything is already too much? Here are some tips you can follow.

1. Pick one pro cheer prep activity

If you feel overwhelmed about the pile of audition prep activities to do, pick one to do for the entire day. When picking, choose one that’s needed to be done ASAP. When the task is done, destress yourself for the remainder of the day. Come back tomorrow refreshed and ready.

2. Hype up the entire prepping process

Pump yourself up by listening to the most hyping or happiest music on your playlist. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed because you hate to do a certain preparation activity. Listening to the brightest music while doing your task will help you get over that feeling of dread.

3. Break all the activities down

Instead of writing your pro cheer prep tasks in a simple to-do list, follow every task up with bullets of broken down and actionable steps. The simpler your to-do list is, the vaguer it will be and vague tasks will trick your mind into thinking the task is going to be complicated.

4. Have a five-minute meeting with yourself at the end of the day

The 5-minute meeting with yourself at the end of each day is to let you review what pro cheer prep activities you haven’t done. Make a list of the undone tasks. Do the important ones tomorrow. Forget the unimportant activities.

Sometimes the feeling of being overwhelmed is caused by mixing important and unimportant stuff altogether because you treat everything equally important and urgent.

5. Develop and follow a morning routine

A meaningful morning routine provides you with energy and positive vibes throughout your day. This is because if you start your morning relaxed, happy, or energetic, that’s what you would usually feel as well as your day goes on.

Morning routines can be anything. They can either be you going for a morning exercise or doing yoga in the backyard.

6. Pray or meditate

Connecting to a higher power helps you relieve stress and reinvigorate your soul. Pray for guidance, be grateful for your life, and if you want, you can also make a prayer of petition - pray that you’ll pass the auditions.

If you aren’t religious, you can meditate and be one with the universe to recharge and reset your mind, body, and soul.

7. Do the 5 x 5 x 2 breathing technique

Breathe in for 5 seconds. Breathe out for 5 seconds as well. Do this for two minutes before going back to complete your pro cheer prep tasks.

8. Take an emotional time out

Are you complaining about your pro cheer prep tasks every day? Why don’t you procrastinate for a while? Read a book. Do self-care. Make art. Go shopping. Or call someone who’s sure to bring you some positive vibes.

Just remember that this procrastination episode is only temporary. Don’t procrastinate too much. You still have a pro cheer dream to fulfill.

9. Take a physical time out

Don’t hesitate to skip a day or session for working out if you’re tired or experiencing muscle soreness. Stay home and recover or do some light activities.

Being overwhelmed is part of life. It can be the feeling of being overwhelmed by fear, dread, chaos, etc. We have faced these same problems for millions of years and have learned to get over them. And the techniques we’ve learned are simple: You can run away, relax, pray, meditate, procrastinate, get hyped, or simplify things. What’s important is you never give up and come back to finish the job.
