3 Reasons Consistency Is the Key to Progress in Your Fitness Goals (And How to Develop It)
First-time or rookie pro cheer aspirants often face the pressure of developing a fit body for the auditions. We’re not just talking about having the ideal body figure. We also mean having high levels of stamina, endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination.
Because let’s face it, professional cheerleading is a career that involves athleticism. This is why it matters to choose a workout and nutrition plan that suits your health and energy requirements during audition prep. By doing this, you can increase your chances of making it to your dream team.
To make your overall strategy work, it's important to develop consistency. Learn more about consistency, why it’s important for your fitness goals, and how you can develop it.
What is Consistency?
Consistency is doing things repeatedly. In fitness, consistency allows you to develop healthy habits easily so that you can reap the positive results of your nutrition and exercise efforts. In other words, consistently following a workout schedule, routine, and nutrient-dense diet program, you’ll be able to reach your fitness goals sooner than those who don’t.
Why Consistency Is Key to Your Fitness Journey
1. Your efforts compound delivering better results
Being strict in training but still eating unhealthily would yield minimal and slow results. The same happens vice versa. Whereas being disciplined in your workouts and food choices would help you burn more fat and increase your fitness level more effectively than those who aren’t willing to make full sacrifices.
2. Get better at your workouts
Consistency makes your body quickly adapt to the effects of your workout program. As a result, you’ll have fewer recovery days and can visit the gym or complete an exercise session every day. Thus, another cause of quick progress towards your fitness goals.
3. Everything else becomes easy
Habits start from consistency. At first, following your workout and diet program will be hard. But eventually, it will become a part of your daily routine. You’ll stop thinking about checking your gains daily and focus on audition preparation. This is the point in your fitness journey when you’ll progress faster than you ever did in the previous weeks.
How to Develop Consistency in Fitness
1. Start small
Don’t give it your all in the first week. Do light workouts such as light jogging and swap some of your unhealthy foods with healthier options. Allow your body to undergo a gradual change. Going all in will make it hard for you to follow your diet and workout programs.
2. Pick a diet and exercise program you actually enjoy
Once your body is used to doing frequent light exercises after a hiatus, follow an exercise program that you know you’ll love doing every day and a healthy diet program that reflects your food interests.
If you love strength training, choose calisthenic workouts or resistance band training. There are also plenty of recipes that mimic the flavor of processed foods that use healthy ingredient alternatives.
3. Schedule workouts at the most convenient hour of your day
The most common reason why it’s hard to stick to a workout routine is bad scheduling. So if your mornings are busy and you finish your daily tasks in the early afternoon, then schedule your workout on post-meridian hours.
But if your afternoons are also busy, you’ll need to wake up earlier than usual or just exercise on the weekends.
4. Log your progress
Lastly, track and record your workout progress. They will remind you about how far you’ve gone and motivate you to keep on doing your best.
Reaching your fitness goals won’t happen overnight. It’s not enough to be dedicated to your diet and workout programs. More importantly, you’ll also need to practice patience. Remember that regardless of the audition outcome, you're already a winner because of the good habits you've developed!
