3 Tips on Wearing Your Best Hair During Pro Cheer Auditions

Should I wear my hair down or pull it back into a ponytail? How about getting it professionally styled? Can I experiment with another hair color? I get these questions from women who are looking to audition for the first time.

Hair is such an important part of your appearance. The right hairstyle, cut, and color will bring out your best facial features. Professional cheerleaders also use their hair when dancing. If you watch dance performance videos of the pros, you will notice that their dance routines incorporate a hair toss. To make sure that you look superb like a true professional cheerleader, I’m about to share with you three audition-day hair tips.

Wear your hair down.

Most pro cheer teams will ask you to wear your hair down. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and New England Patriots Cheerleaders are two NFL teams that require members to wear their hair down not only on game days but also cheer practices.

During the auditions, a team may allow candidates to wear a half-ponytail or another hairstyle for their freestyle/solo performances. I would highly advise that you research the current look of the team/s you’ll be auditioning for and pay attention to their hair in every phase of the entire audition. Also, check out their audition requirements and email the team for your inquiries (details are provided on the team audition page of their website).

Match a color with someone from the team.

The easiest and safest way to pick a hair color that the judges would love is to copy from one of the current team members. All the hair colors that are used by your dream team have been approved by the team director. If there is a color that you have in mind and you don’t see it in the team, it’s safe to assume that the color is not in style.

But please make sure that whatever color you choose must match your skin tone. If you have a cool skin tone, go for colors like dark brown, jet black, an icy blonde, or platinum blonde. If you have a warmer tone, you’d look great in rich auburn or golden brown. Be careful not to pick a color that’ll make your hair look fried or dry!

Avoid bangs.

You may think that bangs look cute but they will only interfere with your dancing. They will stick to your forehead when you sweat, and won’t stay in place when you’re dancing heavily. If you must have bangs, have longer side swept bangs. Be sure to rehearse with them weeks before the auditions.

So there you have it, my three hair tips you must follow for the big day. I look forward to your success! For more tips on hair and beauty, I recommend these articles:
