5 Things You Should Avoid Doing Before a Pro Cheerleading Dance Audition

A professional cheerleading team audition day is a major event. After all, it’s one of the days in your life in which you’ve waited for so long and prepared so much for. This is why you should do your best to attend with everything in perfection.

But the reality is that things won’t always go smoothly. And these mishaps can be caused by you or things outside your control. Speaking from our experiences and testimonies of previous pro cheer aspirants, here are the common causes of a bad audition day that you should avoid to increase your chances of success.

1. Eating foods that can upset your stomach

There are certain foods or ingredients that can potentially cause stomach problems if eaten the night before an audition day. For example, spicy food can make it uncomfortable down there the next morning.

Sweets with sugar substitutes such as diet soda, sugar-free gum, candies, desserts, and cereal have laxative effects that can cause loose bowel movements. If you react negatively to these foods, make sure not to indulge in them before going to bed.

2. Drinking alcohol

Nobody is immune to hangovers no matter how high their tolerance is. Staying away from alcohol the night before an important event is commonsense. But you may never know. One glass could lead to a bender. Just keep your hands off the alcohol. It’ll just be for one night. Play it safe.

3. Staying up late

We’re all guilty of scrolling through our phones in bed or watching TV before hitting the sack. But like drinking our favorite poison, we can lose track of what we’re doing and be surprised to see that it’s already past midnight. And that causes anxiety, leading to difficulty sleeping.

It’s best to eat or drink something during dinner that would help you feel drowsy. Good examples are chamomile tea, poultry, fish, sunflower, pumpkin seeds, and peanuts.

4. Being too relaxed

You need to relax the night before and audition. However, don’t overdo it. Make sure that everything you need the next day is ready in a bag. And that bag should contain a makeup retouch kit, fresh backup clothes, and a towel to wipe your sweat.

Don’t forget to pack your snacks, lunch for reheating, and fill up your tumbler with water. If you want to, you could also practice your choreography for one last time.

5. Getting in a fight with someone

All of these reminders prepare you physically and mentally. But let’s not forget the emotional aspect as well. Avoid conflicts or arguments with people close to you, whether in-person or online. This way, you can attend the audition rounds focused, feeling peaceful, energized, and optimistic.

By keeping the things mentioned above in mind, you’ll be able to audition for your dream pro cheer team in your A-game. And that’s one of the things you’ll need to stand above the hundreds of candidates on the big day.
