6 Tips On Balancing Work, Life, and Pro Cheerleading

Pro cheerleader is a part-time career. Yet, it is an experience that a lot of women cannot let pass. You can see it from the thousands of women who audition every year. But because of its part-time nature, work, school, and family, would most likely come first for you.

This makes it even challenger for you to fulfill your audition prep and squad responsibilities because you have to juggle them all together and become very busy. So what should you do? The answer to being successful in both life and pro cheerleading is to have a flexible daily schedule. Here’s how to get it.

1. Assess yourself and your priorities

Only you truly know yourself. That’s why only you can accurately rank your daily priorities. Which comes first, second, third, and so on in your life? Is it work, school, family, or pro cheerleading?

If pro cheerleading is your top priority and school is the second, that means you should give more time and attention to squad or audition prep activities.

2. Prepare a proposal to your superiors

In case you have chosen pro cheerleading as your top priority, the next step is to inform your boss that you’re going to reduce your working hours. The same applies to your instructor at school and your partner at home.

Suddenly proposing to your boss about working lesser hours will be hard. It’s best that you let them understand your disposition first and ease them into the idea. You can also entice them to agree with you by providing some advantages of you reducing your work time.

3. Communicate with other co-workers

Once your superior has given the green light, it’s time to inform your co-workers, classmates, or children about the decision. They will be surprised for sure. So you need to reassure them that things won’t be difficult for everyone.

Tell them that you’ll double your efforts during your schedule. You’ll also have to deliver your promises such as getting work done in such a short time at work, school, or home.

4. Differentiate your important, urgent, and negotiable tasks

In pro cheer, work, school, and at home, there are tasks that are important, urgent, and negotiable. Important are things that you really need to do with a deadline that benefits your long-term goals and ambitions such as daily exercise.

Urgent is usually what’s important for others such as delivering a school or office report because a coworker failed to do it. Negotiable are tasks that you can set aside at the moment such as confidence-building if you’re already confident enough to perform in crowds.

Remember to always do your important tasks first and say no to those that “aren’t your urgent”. And don’t forget to schedule your negotiable tasks as well because they might become urgent in the future and would cause you to panic.

5. Be efficient with your time

When it’s time to do your audition prep, pro cheer, work, household, or school tasks, give it your all. Don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked by distractions such as social media or watching TV. Focus on getting your tasks done efficiently.

The more efficient you are at completing your tasks, the more free time you’ll have and you don’t have to waste time trying to iron out mistakes.

6. Make time for free time

You can only make your schedule truly flexible if you have a lot of free time. To get more free time, you have to schedule it or break from routine sometimes. If you spend your mornings exercising, use your weekend mornings as free time.

Then, use that free time to do household work or other secondary priorities. Breaking routine is also good because it freshens up your mind. That way your life and pro cheer’s journey becomes less stressful.

It isn’t advisable to equally divide your schedule among all your responsibilities. This is because top priorities will need most of your attention and time. Instead, you should complete your priorities as quickly and efficiently as possible and spend that free time on other priorities.
