Are You Worried About What Others Think of You?
You want to be a pro cheerleader.
And of course, apart from the trust and belief that you have for yourself, support and approval are something you crave too. After all, having the right people to be there for you and hearing the most positive of words in every step of the way can be very motivating and inspiring.
We have people in our lives who support us in our dreams and like us overall, and there will be people who won’t. But what do you do when you’re getting more of the “won’t”?
Are you too busy seeking approval?
You’re spending a lot of time in the gym to achieve the body that you want. You’re going to dance classes. You’re spending money and effort on skincare, so you’ll have great skin in time for the auditions.
Yet, you noticed one of your friends or a member of the family doesn’t seem to be encouraging you enough. Are they jealous? Are they not happy with your progress? What are you doing wrong?
Support and approval are very crucial and while both can push us to be the best that we can be, the lack of these can break some.
When you’re too pre-occupied about how others see you, sometimes, you stir away from important matters. Sure, it’s great when you get positive ones, but when you don’t, you tend to become easily discouraged. You may start doubting yourself. It may stress you out. Worst, you might start trying to be someone else, like another pro cheer candidate you know, to fit others’ expectations of you.
Always worrying about what others think of you is a recipe for disaster.
If you’re exactly as I described above, then stop!
There’s more to life than worrying about what others think of you. So before it gets the better of you, here are surefire ways to think more of yourself (in a good way), instead:
1. Learn to accept
We all know it. Not everyone will like and love us and that’s ok. It’s easier said than done, but when you’re able to accept this fact, it’s easier to loosen the grip that other people’s opinions have on you.
2. Overthinking is a no-no
Your friend didn’t hit the love button on your gym selfie, and you’re head’s exploding with awful thoughts. Social media can be crazy sometimes. Consider the possibility of friends and family having their own busy lives. Don’t seek validation for every single thing, and not on social media too, please.

3. Also, don’t be overly sensitive.
Being too sensitive for the littlest of things will do you more harm than good by blowing things out of proportion. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.
4. Focus on yourself.
Not only should you accept what others have to say about you, but you should also accept the fact that no one’s perfect, even you! You might have flaws. But that’s why you’re striving to be a better version of yourself.
5. Know yourself best.
Don’t allow other people’s opinions get the better of you. Only you know your struggles and your efforts and you are the best person to see it. Remember, you don’t need to live up to everyone’s expectations. You only need to live up to yours.
6. The feedback that matters
What’s that? It’s the kind of feedback that helps you improve. Not all opinions matter. Seek feedback from people that you trust, like your trainer, your mentor or your dance instructor and apply it to help you in your progress.
Make conscious efforts not to allow yourself to be affected by everything negatively. If people have something to say, filter them. Are they helpful to you? If they are, apply them in your life. If they aren’t, shrug them off. At the end of the day, you’re in charge of your life!!!
