Choosing the Best Workout Plan for You
At times you don’t feel happy about working out or when the results you get from exercising aren’t what you expected, it could only mean one thing - you followed a bad workout plan. If this is exactly what’s happening right now, you should remake your fitness program with these tips.
1. Identify your fitness goals
Every workout program morphs our body in different areas. There are glute exercises to strengthen and shape your butt and thighs. You also have strength training to tone your upper body. And there are others to increase your physical endurance.
So what level of fitness do you want to achieve? Do you want to be stronger? Bulk up? Be more slender? Write your answer down.
2. Choose workout programs to achieve those goals
By defining the fitness goals you want to achieve, you’ll be able to pick a challenging workout program that would give you the ideal body you want. If you aim to have a six-pack, you need more core exercises and cardio, not weightlifting.
3. Choose an exercise that you enjoy
Aside from doing the wrong workout, you also wouldn’t enjoy these exercises. Every fitness goal has multiple workout paths that lead to achieving them. Some of these paths include activities you’d actually love doing.
For example, if your fitness goal is a high level of cardiorespiratory endurance, you can choose from running, swimming, biking, rowing, dancing, and other sports. Which of these activities do you find most enjoyable and challenging? More importantly, pick the exercise that best represents your lifestyle.
4. Choose more than one type
It’s good to have two or more varieties of workouts for a single fitness goal. This is to keep your workouts interesting and prevent you from quickly reaching your plateau - being efficient in an exercise where calorie burn and body change happens less.
Another thing, vary the intensity for each of your workout types. Set an intensity level that won’t easily tire you out and put you in severe discomfort but would still challenge you and produce significant body changes.
5. Decide where you’ll exercise most of the time
Each of us has our preferred workout space. Some go to the gym because it’s spacious and they like to meet or be in the company of other people. Others prefer to stay at home. There are also some who take it to the outdoors with their friends.
Making a decision based on where you prefer to workout is important because some workout plans will be hard to do in some conditions due to a lack of equipment.
6. Get a mentor
If you’re a newbie when it comes to staying fit, there’s a high chance you’ll have the wrong exercise program. It can be caused by a person giving advice at the gym, a badly-researched blog you read, or just working out without proper research.
It’s best to be mentored by a licensed fitness professional or coach. You can find some of them online or in the gym you have applied for a membership with. These professionals know your body type and can suggest workout programs that would best fit your physique while maximizing results from your efforts.
7. Have alternate workouts that don’t depend on the weather, time of day, or location
Lastly, don’t create a workout plan that can be restricted by some conditions. The most important thing to remember for staying fit is: You should never miss a workout schedule. You must have a workout plan at home, at the gym, for the outdoors, rainy days, sunny days, night, day, etc.
Creating the best workout plan for you starts when you clearly define the fitness goals you want to achieve. When you have set body goals to achieve, do your research online or get advice from a fitness professional. Then, follow their instructions properly to get the best physical results.
