How to Develop a Learning Attitude for Pro Cheerleading and Dance Success
Professional cheerleaders play a vital role in representing their sports team and providing entertainment to the fans in the NFL and NBA. Physical fitness, a great personality, athletic abilities, and dancing skills all play a part in the selection process for pro cheerleaders.
However, some teams are also looking for auditionees with a learning attitude. Teams will need someone who has the motivation and willingness to adapt to the culture of their cheer squad. Aside from showcasing your skills and abilities, you must show the judges your eagerness to learn, enthusiasm, curiosity, and engagement in pro cheerleading.
Here are five ways to develop a learning attitude and increase your chances of making the squad.
1. Make the most of your day
Learning takes time and effort. Aim to make the most of your day and do something productive, especially if you have a job outside cheerleading. You can wake up early and use those morning hours to practice dance routines and improve your skills, watch cheerleading videos and learn new techniques, or exercise and stay fit. And after all those activities, don’t neglect to schedule rest to let your body heal and recover.
2. Review and reframe your motivation
Your motivation can affect your ability to develop a learning attitude. If you want to be successful at something, you need to know what drives you to do what you do.
Ask yourself, “What are my motivations for joining a pro cheer squad?” If your drivers are external, such as money or fame, you can reframe those motivations and turn them into something that comes from within.
To achieve pro cheerleading success, you need internally driven motivations, such as a desire for autonomy, the joy of mastering a dance routine, or the happiness of pursuing your dream.
3. Be open to learning
As you progress into your cheerleading career, you should be willing to learn new skills, break out of your comfort zone, try something new, and be as coachable as possible. You also need to learn how to adapt to the diet requirements of being an athlete. This will empower you to deal with challenges necessary for your growth and development.
4. Set clear goals and objectives
Being a pro cheerleader requires serious dedication and commitment. If you want a learning attitude in your chosen career, set clear goals and objectives and act on them. For instance, if your goal is to stay fit to keep up with the demands of cheerleading, then you can start modifying your workout or consider learning new options for eating healthy.
It also helps to write down your goals where you can see them. This will help narrow your focus and provide short-term motivation and excitement.
5. Eliminate a negative mindset
The fear of making mistakes can hinder your ability to grow and improve. A negative mindset won’t allow you to break out of your comfort zone and face new challenges, causing your skills and abilities to remain stagnant. Eliminate negativity by focusing on your strengths, surrounding yourself with positive people, and smiling more.
Conclusion
Your learning attitude determines how you choose your priorities, how well you pursue your goals, and how successful you will become as a pro cheerleader. Although your physical fitness, athleticism, and dancing skills can get you to audition, your attitude also decides the fate of you making the squad.
Ultimately, developing a learning attitude is essential for improving self-confidence and competence, which you will need to achieve success, fulfillment, and satisfaction.
