How to Fall in Love With Fitness (And Make Working Out a Habit)

Hello, aspiring pro cheerleader! Do you hate it when it’s almost time to exercise? I know you do. Sometime in your audition preparation, you’ve probably said, “Ugh, not this again” when the alarm sounded off for your morning or afternoon workout.

I diagnose you with a serious problem of “workout demotivation”. So, I prescribe you the medicine called: “Falling in love with fitness.” Follow the strategies below.

1.  Set small goals

Ambitious fitness goals have rigid and strict programs that will always make you feel you’re not doing enough. Smaller goals, however, are simple to achieve. The process you undergo is enjoyable and you’ll feel better after with every success.

2.  Time your sessions right

You won’t love fitness if your workouts are scheduled at times when you feel lazy and you should be relaxing. Find your peak hours when your energy is up. You can also schedule your fitness activities during vacant times when you don’t feel like resting.

3.  Find an exercise you love

Everyone has some form of activity that they love. Personally, I love running when my entire body feels like it’s on fire. That’s why a session at the treadmill or an intense game of tennis never grows old for me.

So what’s your favorite fitness routine? Support that activity by investing money and buying the right equipment for it. Then perform the workout daily and push yourself further by adding difficulty to it.

4.  Always try new workouts

When doing the same workout routine repeatedly, it can lead to a lack of fitness enthusiasm. Reset yourself by challenging your mind and body with different exercises. I do run and play tennis a lot. But there are also days when I do cycling and jumping ropes.

5.  Surround yourself with fitness enthusiasts

Couch potatoes or alcoholics hate being fit. Hanging out with these kinds of people for a long time will make you hate workouts as well. Keep a close relationship with fitness junkies, you’ll learn to love working out as a passion.

Imagine hanging out with a fitness enthusiast friend, then one day, they’ll suddenly say, “I noticed, that Dri-FIT of yours is no longer FIT. It’s rather loose now.” Wouldn’t that be music to your ears?

6.  Think of workouts as chores

At first, you’ll always hate workouts especially when the schedule comes for you to sweat. But if you treat it as a necessity, you’ll eventually find yourself saying, “Well look at the time. It’s time for my beloved pilates!”

One good way to make fitness a chore is to turn daily simple activities into a low-key workout.

7.  Be realistic and forget timelines

Not every workout program will yield the same physical result in the same amount of time from one person to another. A daily 3-mile run for a month might cut your coach’s belly fat but it might not also work for you.

It doesn’t mean that you’re not doing it right or enough. It’s just your body reacts differently to workouts. Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go as you expect. Be patient. There is no true deadline for having the body of a goddess. A great physique is a product of the year(s) of diligent and persevering training.

8.  Find competition and love it

Have you ever been asked if you could do something and you couldn’t? We’ve all been there. We either felt bad for ourselves or content with what we can do in the meantime. I ditched those kinds of feelings and molded my mentality to rise up to any challenge.

At first, I couldn’t run a speed of 6mph for more than 5 minutes. But I trained and trained harder. Now I can run at 6mph for more than 20 minutes. All it took for me was to stop feeling inferior and the attitude of settling for mediocrity.

By adopting a competitive mindset, I found myself in love running. To this day, I still challenge myself from time to time.

To fall in love with fitness, train your mind to the point where it won’t feel dread when thinking about workouts or healthy diets. Better yet, turn every fitness effort and activity as your newfound hobby.
