How to Get Started When You're Not Yet Ready for the Audition Prep Journey

Are you an aspiring pro cheerleader who knows what she wants but is afraid to take the first step? It could be a fear of rejection, of feeling not good enough, not toned, or not beautiful enough.

The thing is, that is what prep time is for—to empower you to be ready on the day of the audition. So if you have your heart set on becoming a pro cheerleader, here are a few tips to inspire you to take the first step and get started.

1. Find your support system.

Do you feel the need for validation? For someone to tell you that you are qualified and who believes in you?

First of all, we’re here to give you the validation you need. The pro cheerleader in you is waiting to be polished like a genie in a bottle.

Second, you can always turn to your friends and family for support. Tell them about your dream and why you want to become a pro cheerleader. Those who know you and believe in you will back you up.

Avoiding telling people you know will only add to your self-doubts. Confide to like-minded people who are passionate, ambitious, and have a go-getter attitude.

2. Intensify the desire until you give into it.

There are two ways to get yourself to start doing something you still have doubts with. It’s either you push yourself to do it (like exercising in the morning) or you get pulled towards the irresistible desire to do it (like foods you’re craving for). The second is the easiest to pull off.

If you find aspiring pro cheerleaders who continue to audition even when they get rejected, it only means they have an insatiable desire that can only be satisfied by becoming a pro cheerleader.

3. Surround yourself with the pros.

Join prep classes where you will be immersed with other aspiring pro cheerleaders as well as those who have made it to the top.

The more time you spend with these people, the more you will grow to love pro cheerleading and the more you will want to play the part.

You can also read books written by and for pro cheerleaders. You can listen to podcasts or watch YouTube videos where pro cheerleaders can inspire you to reach for your dreams no matter what it takes.

4. Stop over-thinking.

Eliminate your what-if’s for the time being and take the first step that’s right in front of you. Don’t think twice before enrolling in a prep class, dance class, or workshop.

Don’t spend too much time making the decisions to start working on your dream. The longer it takes for you to decide on activities that can prepare you for becoming a pro cheerleader, the more you are likely to get demotivated and start to doubt your decisions.

5. Never hurts to try.

Do a trial class because there’s really nothing to lose by doing it. If the teaching style doesn’t work for you, no worries. Sign up for a trial class for a different dance class, dance teacher, or dance studio. Don’t be afraid to shop around for the right dance studio.

6. Get a feel of the audition.

You can now watch auditions on YouTube and other mediums on the internet. Several NFL and NBA pro cheerleaders promote their team by showing aspiring pro cheerleaders what it’s like to audition for them.

While some may get overwhelmed by this process, it should give you the feel of what the audition will be like. The same goes for dance classes. You can watch auditions and classes ongoing if allowed, so you know if you can see yourself doing the same thing or not.

7. Don’t wait for your feelings to change.

Don’t wait for confidence to kick in. Don’t wait for your doubts and fears to go away.

You never know what you are capable of doing unless you start doing it. It won’t be long before you realize, hey, I didn’t know I can do this!

Our feelings change as we get out of our comfort zone. Initially, you will feel uneasy but as you adapt to your new situation of going to dance classes twice a week and working on your fitness goals, your negative feelings will vanish as you reap the fruits of your labor.

Wrap Up

The first step is always the hardest and most nerve-wracking experience. But if you want to become a pro cheerleader so bad that you feel like it has magnets on it that make you gravitate towards it, then it’s worth taking a shot.

Remember you don’t have anything to lose by trying. If you don’t want to look back at this time one day and think, I should’ve done this earlier, then make the first step today. Look the part, get a feel of how things work, and surround yourself with the energy of pro cheerleaders. One day, you’ll wake up no longer afraid and that day won’t come until you get started today!!!
