How to Keep Your Skin Healthy While You're Stuck At Home
The pandemic has forced us to stay inside, reducing our exposure to outdoor pollution. But that doesn’t mean that we should be complacent with our skin. The indoor atmosphere is just as polluted as the outside but a little less. While you’re stuck in your home with more time to spare, why not take this as an opportunity for a skin vacation? With these important skincare techniques, you can stay young and vibrant even during the pandemic.
1. Apply SPF cream even you’re staying indoors
We all know that the outdoors are exposed to the sun and its UV rays. As a countermeasure, we apply SPF creams to block the harmful rays and prevent skin aging. Well, sunlight still penetrates our windows and curtains so you’re not off the hook for applying SPF cream. Use a minimum of SPF 30 when staying indoors or you can apply SPF 50 daily for better skin protection.
2. Moisturize your hands after washing
It is important to wash your hands and face regularly during this season. Yet, the frequent use of sanitizer and antibacterial chemicals also results in dryness and irritation. Always keep your hands and skin hydrated after washing with moisturizers with hyaluronic acid. Particularly apply the moisturizer while your skin is damp to trap the water in your pores rather than letting it evaporate
3. Avoid touching your face
This is not just a COVID-19 infection preventive measure. Even in the absence of an outbreak, your hands still house bacteria that are not good for your face. Even worse when you’ve been touching surfaces and forgot to wash them first. This stressful environment we are in today can promote acne breakouts so hands off your face and don’t pop zits. If you wear contact lenses, it’s time to wear glasses.
4. Clean your phone
Our phones are breeding grounds for bacteria, germs, and viruses. Clean it regularly with an antibacterial wipe to stay safe next time a call arrives. Even if you use earphones while calling, sanitize your phone and your hands.
5. Don’t overuse your devices and don’t look down when using them
Phones, tablets, or screen devices emit blue light. This light is known to yield harmful effects on the skin such as dark spots and premature aging. Take a break from a gadget and limit your use. Also, avoid looking down when using your phone or a tablet. If you don't, you’ll end up having a “Tech Neck” - Folded wrinkles on the skin of your neck.
6. Vitalize but be gentle on your skin
Now that we all have a lot of time to spare in this quarantine, let’s all make use of it by applying skincare products. Since you’re no longer applying makeup on a daily basis, keep in mind to use gentler products and stick to a simpler routine. Stick to simple skincare such as electrolyte skincare, Vitamin C, moisturizers and gentle dirt removers. Utilize your free time by emphasizing the correct application techniques as indicated by the products.
When removing dirt through facial wash, don’t apply too much force when scrubbing. Avoid damaging your skin by using the recommended amount of application by the product label. Facial scrubs contain a lot of alcohol so make sure it doesn’t sit long on your face resulting in dryness and prevention of your skin’s natural oil production.
Pro beauty tip: Regularly change and wash your bed sheets and pillowcases to prevent bacteria buildup while sleeping. Keeping your skin healthy during quarantine is simple: Keep blocking harmful UV rays, stay moisturized, hands off your face, exercise caution when using devices, and keep your skincare routine simple. Following these techniques daily will guarantee clear and beautiful skin!
