How to Pick the Right Activewear for Your Fitness Workouts
Working out and pro cheerleading go hand in hand. By exercising regularly, you’re able to maintain a great physique which is required for squad members and auditionees. You’re also keeping yourself healthy to attend all important squad events. And lastly, fitness sessions increase your energy levels so you can give your all during your performances.
But exercising effectively can be challenging without the right activewear. By reading this article until the end, you’ll know the basics on how to make the right buying choice so you can crush those workouts.
1. List the workouts you’ll do
Each workout has the right type of shoe, shirt, pants, shorts, and bra for it. Running shoes might be comfortable below your foot during a jog but not when you’re doing jumping ropes or strength training. You’ll also need gloves for some exercises. A loose or low-impact sports bra can’t prevent your breasts from bouncing out of control during a high-impact workout session. And that can cause post-workout breast sores.
2. Match your activewear with your body
Fit is the #1 thing you should pay attention to when buying activewear. Loose clothing can cause skin chafing especially when running. Baggy pants might get snagged in the gears of the bike as you cycle. A good rule of thumb is to measure your different body parts such as your bust, butt, hips, arms, and feet for reference at the clothing store. Seasoned fitness enthusiasts suggest wearing stretchable products to stay well fitted in case you lose or gain weight.
3. Match your activewear with the local environment or season
Is it hot where you live? You’ll need activewear that easily wicks sweat away and is highly breathable to prevent yourself from having a heat stroke while you’re doing your sets. Or if you live in a colder place, you’ll need activewear that can keep your entire body warm while protecting it from the elements such as rain and wind. During winter, it’s best to have fleece headbands and workout beanies.
4. Have plenty of spares
Don’t buy one or two workout clothing. Have as many as seven or more socks, bras, shirts, shorts, and pants. This will guarantee you’ll always have something dry to wear after a session or if you forgot to do your weekend laundry. Instead of buying your fitness clothes in singles, buy them in bundles to get discounts.
5. Avoid cotton
Cotton is a great sweat absorber. Yet it doesn’t dry quickly and is the main cause of acne around the body. The best activewear fabrics are nylon and polyester. Both are quick to dry and breathable.
6. Put function first over fashion
You’ll see a lot of cute-looking activewear as you shop. Yet, most of these beautifully designed products won’t deliver maximum comfort as you exercise. Always try everything before buying. If something looks good yet feels tight, itchy, or abrasive as you move, opt for something a little looser, simpler, and skin-friendly.
7. Color and temperature
As a continuation of #3, the color of your clothing will greatly affect your body temperature during your exercises. Darker colors absorb more light which means that it also retains more heat from the sun. Light colors reflect light so they tend to feel cooler. With that said, dark colors are right for colder seasons while light colors are the best for outdoor workouts during warmer months.
8. Prioritize quality over quantity
You’ll be tempted to buy cheap activewear during your shopping endeavors. Remember that cheap often means poor quality. As much as possible, only purchase authentic clothing. Most low-priced workout clothes are sown badly and more prone to ripping. Some even get brittle after a few washes. Others smell bad in the long run.
9. Buy in physical stores
Online shopping is good. Yet, there is one problem: Some products aren’t as they’re posted. You might have measured your entire body to buy the right fit but the seller used an inaccurate size chart. Then, you ended up buying a product that has the wrong fit which is a huge waste of money. Aside from buying authentic clothing, buy from an actual boutique as well because you can fit everything before paying.
The purpose of wearing the right clothing for working out is to help you stay comfortable and safe. Because of this, you’ll have better focus on completing your sets which in turn helps you get the best out of your fitness sessions.
