How to Reframe Negative Thoughts for a Successful Audition

Have you been struggling to stay positive while preparing for a future dance audition? Because it's easy to feel discouraged when you're all pressured and nervous. The thought of being in front of a huge crowd can be scary, especially if it's your first time. You're vulnerable.

But guess what? Throughout your audition prep journey until the big day, you can remain positive - regardless of what's going on or the thoughts that cross your mind. While you're likely to experience challenges and be bombarded with discouraging thoughts, you can find the positive in them. You can change your perspective in a positive way. We call this technique reframing

Today, you're going to discover effective ways to create positive reframes. By following these tips, you get a boost in self-esteem, stay motivated, and have the energy to do what you need to succeed.

Identify the truth.

Too often, we dwell on negative thoughts because we consider them to be real. But do you realize that all your thoughts happen in your private world? It's important to describe something as accurately as possible.

A powerful strategy would be to ask yourself, "What else is true for me?" Let's say that you missed two weeks of working out because you felt under the weather. Instead of embracing negative thoughts, you could embrace another truth which is you have more opportunities to redeem yourself - and you can get started now. Or your body deserved to rest, and it's the best decision you've made for your health and well-being!

Redirect your thoughts to positive possibilities.

You can dwell on two types of possibilities: A negative possibility (which discourages you) or a positive possibility (which uplifts you). Visualizing desirable outcomes enables you to create opportunities for them to happen.

Let's consider another situation. Let's say that you're about to join a prep class for the first time, and you're starting to think, "What if all the women there are great at dancing and I'm not?" Instead of thinking that way, you need to think about:

  • New tips that you can apply to your routine so you can get better!
  • Wonderful women you can meet (who might become your future cheer sisters)!
  • Lessons you can learn that will inspire you,

Set outcomes for each day.

One of the characteristics of successful people is that they intentionally choose success. Each morning, before you get out of bed, make a conscious decision to spend your energy focusing on solutions and finding ways to improve yourself. Remember: It is your responsibility to be a proactive problem solver and stay positive. Choose to distance from drama. To be grateful for opportunities.
