Hey ladies! I hope you’re doing great so far and that you’re doing the work needed to succeed in the auditions. I know that sometimes things can get overwhelming as there are a lot of areas about yourself in relation to professional cheerleading that you should figure out.

One of the questions I get is this: What audition outfit or apparel must I wear that will make me memorable? Perhaps you already have a couple of options but are still not sure what to go for. You will learn five helpful tips in this guide.

5 Audition Attire Tips for Pro Cheer Candidates

1. Look at photos of last year’s tryouts.

A lot of pro cheer teams post photos of their recent tryouts on their website and social media. If they have returning veterans, you’ll want to check out their photos as well. Pictures give you a solid idea on what designs and colors stand out in a great way. Above is an Instagram photo of veterans from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

2. Follow the dress code.

Dance teams always specify what outfit you should wear to the auditions. You don’t want to go to the auditions wearing something that wasn’t indicated on their open auditions page. If they wrote that you must wear form-fitting dance athletic attire and gym shoes, make sure to follow that. After checking the dress code, you’ll want to go back to our tip #1 for specificity.

3. Have the goal of looking great IN your attire.

Sometimes, a candidate chooses an outfit that looks great alone. But when she wears it, the outfit now looks overpowering. Your audition attire must enhance your best qualities. Dress according to your body shape. Pick colors that flatter your skin tone. The color of your outfit must make your skin look vibrant, not dull.

4. Choose an outfit that allows you to move freely.

Too tight or too loose… avoid these kinds of outfits! Remember that auditions involve a lot of dancing and moving around. If you wear very tight clothing, you will only find it hard to breathe, walk, and speak properly. Because you’ll be too conscious. The judges will notice that instead of your dancing.

5. Add your own style.

Get a little creative to make your outfit 100% unique. If you can afford a designer, that would be great. But if you can’t, you can definitely create your own outfit that represents you. Add some rhinestones to a plain swimsuit top for glamour. Pin a sparkly belt to your shorts.

Don’t Forget To Do A Dress Rehearsal!!!

Whether you order your outfit or get it from a store, don’t make the mistake of skipping a dress rehearsal. You must be able to dance in your outfit at home, in front of a mirror, to feel it and see yourself from different angles. I would recommend that you take photos and videos of yourself and ask for personal opinions from your loved ones or a former pro cheerleader (if you can reach out to one!)
