Key Pointers to Nail Your Next Pro Cheer Audition

Whether this is your first time to join a pro cheer audition or you didn’t make the team and want to try again, this article is for you. One of the questions that aspiring pro cheerleaders ask me is this: “How do I stand out at the auditions? How can I be memorable in a good way?”

Today, I’m going to offer some pointers to make sure that you put your best foot forward. Once you’re done with the tips below, make sure that you to implement them right away. It takes time and repetition to master a skill. You don’t want to come to the auditions half-prepared, half-ready.

What to Focus on When Preparing for a Pro Cheer Audition

1. Mindset

This is a huge one. Mindset is everything when it comes to success. If you don’t get your mindset right, the rest fails. A negative mindset won’t motivate you to do the work. A bad mindset won’t get you through tough moments. Speak kind words to yourself. Ask yourself the right questions.

2. Physical Fitness

Present yourself as fit and toned. You need to be calendar-ready. It’s easy to tell if an audition candidate lacked preparation in achieving the kind of physical fitness of a professional cheerleader. Cut your calories to promote fat loss. Make healthier food choices. Build strength through bodyweight training. Lift weights.

3. Look the Part

When it comes to grooming and appearance, your goal is to transform your looks in such a way that it aligns with your dream team. Stand out while blending in. This means that while you follow your dream team’s current look (in terms of hair, makeup, and accessories), you also make sure that your natural features and performance stand out.

4. Public Speaking

Practice answering audition interview questions. The judges will observe how you respond to questions. Do you sound clear and intelligent or do you seem clueless? To make a good impression, consider participating in a local Toastmasters® group. Smile while you speak. Get rid of crutch words.

Whether you’re a natural dancer or you’re just getting started, make dance training part of your pro cheer audition prep journey. Additional dance lessons, especially Hip-Hop and Jazz, will help you pick up choreography quickly. You’ll be asked to memorize and perform with a small group in front of the judges. You might also be required to showcase your own dance. I find the following dance styles beneficial for pro cheer preparation (aside from Hip-Hop and Jazz): Bellydance, Arena dance, Zumba, and Broadway,
