Need Tips to Stay Fit on Vacation? Here Are 5 Easy Ways
Traveling somewhere nice can do wonders for reducing your stress levels and giving you a mental break from work. As someone who lives a lifestyle of fitness — whether as a member of a dance team, alumni pro cheerleader, or aspiring pro cheerleader — you’re still likely to want to maintain your healthy habits such as exercising and eating healthily even on vacation.
The good news is that you can still stay active and healthy no matter where you’re heading to. Here are five tips to help you keep fit while traveling (and it doesn’t involve bringing a pair of dumbbells with you)! Read on.
1. Look for fun things to do in the area.
If your holiday destination has fun activities, take advantage of those. You could do swimming (even in a hotel pool), snorkeling, surfing, hiking, or window shopping. The key is to get your whole body moving while making the most out of your vacation.
2. Pack on-the-go healthy snacks.
If you’ll be spending hours at the airport, be sure to prepare healthy snacks at home before leaving. The best portable snack options with healthy protein and fats include hard-boiled eggs, nuts, dark chocolate, and meat jerky or meat sticks. As much as possible, go sugar-free to avoid blood sugar swings and help you stay energized and alert.
3. Pack a resistance band in your suitcase.
Want to keep your strength gains and flexibility? Resistance bands are a great addition to your vacation fitness plan because they’re so easy to store — they fit in any space — and come in various resistance levels. Using a resistance band, you can do workouts like squats, leg extensions, standing biceps curl, and biceps kickback.

4. Always take the stairs.
This is such a simple tip, yet it does a wonderful job of maintaining your body weight, improving muscle strength, and maintaining joint flexibility. So, whether you’re at the hotel, mall, or another establishment that has stairs, take them.
5. Enjoy local delicacies but don’t go overboard.
If you would love to explore new dishes in your destination, know that you don’t have to deprive yourself. You deserve this experience. Just keep in mind that anything in excess isn’t probably the best option for you — as it adds more calories, especially processed foods. As an added tip, don’t be afraid to ask the staff at restaurants to modify your meals to make them healthier.
There you have it. There’s no need to worry about missing a workout, not moving more, and staying on top of your diet and nutrition plan while enjoying your trip. Staying fit on vacation is more rewarding (and totally possible) than starting over at home!
