New Year, Better You: Positive Changes for Aspiring Pro Cheerleaders
2019 is the year you improve for the best. If you honestly think you haven’t reached your goals for the fast-approaching pro cheer tryouts, know that it’s never too late. First of all, learn to let go of thoughts and things that bring negativity. It’s time for a real change. Here’s how to set yourself up for pro cheer audition success.
How to Change Yourself for the Best This 2019 (And Ace the Tryouts)
Stop Procrastinating and Start Doing
Procrastination is the thief of time and always will be. The thing is, you don’t need to wait for the perfect time to do something. Not only will putting off important tasks stress you out later, but it will also delay the desired results. Start banishing procrastination by creating a pro cheer audition prep checklist and setting deadlines for those tasks. Deadlines create momentum.
Act Like Your Future Self
Close your eyes and imagine that you are already a professional cheerleader. What do your workouts look like? How would you care for your body? What foods would you eat? Become that version of yourself right now. Connect with your future self through your present actions. The present moment holds a lot of potential. Leverage that.
Be Open to Feedback
Do you hate it when people give you feedback? I know that not all feedback is helpful. However, looking at feedback as a blessing is essential because it allows you to find value in it. Before you start getting defensive, try to think of the lesson that’s buried in the feedback. Get to the root of it -- is there really something in you that needs to improve for the auditions?
Create Learning Opportunities for Yourself
You don’t become a professional cheerleader by luck and chance. You succeed in the auditions by making that happen. What do you do? You create opportunities where you can gain more knowledge, understanding, and experience. Enroll yourself in dance classes. Sign up for prep classes offered by your dream team or a former cheerleader. Find a mentor.
Do More of What Makes You Feel Proud
One important thing I learned when I used to prepare for pro cheer auditions is to do things that make me proud. Most of us tend to delay action or make poor decisions when a goal seems far. For example, we eat foods that taste delicious but are actually crap. And we make a habit out of it. Before you make a choice that affects your pro cheer goals, ask if you’ll feel good about yourself later.
Face Your Fears
Ever heard of the advice do one thing every day that scares you? I love this piece of advice because it teaches us to challenge our comfort zones. While going outside your comfort zone doesn’t sound like fun, it makes you stronger and more confident. Right now, identify audition fears you still haven’t dealt with. Work on them each day!

Set a Daily Intention
Badly want to make the team this year? Start with a daily intention. It will transform your practice. That daily intention can be anything from drinking more water to spending 15 minutes for HIIT to reading five pages of a pro cheer prep book. Each positive intention prevents you from living life on autopilot. Most importantly, it brings you closer to your goals!
It’s never too late to create pro cheer audition success this year. Implement these changes now. Transformation will take place gradually but surely. Ready to make your dream pro cheer team?
