Reach Your Pro Cheer Goals: How to Avoid Burnout and Keep Going
Like most aspiring pro cheerleaders, there are many things about yourself that you want to improve. You start out with enthusiasm but over time, you feel that the journey gets harder. On some days, you lose interest. You get easily distracted. You think of negative thoughts.
The truth is that every person has a limit. This is normal. But at the same time, burnout is a wakeup call that you need to reignite your passion for professional cheerleading if you still want to make the team. Here are my five tips for you.
1. Change your workout setting.
Maybe you’ve been exercising on the same treadmill and same room. A new environment will make you feel good. Anything that’s different is sure to captivate you and motivate you. You get a renewed sense of energy. This is because the human brain thrives on novelty.
2. Take good care of your body.
Give yourself credit for all that you do to ace the pro cheer tryouts. Don’t forget to give your body the love it needs. Recognize when you feel stressed out. Get enough sleep! Eat foods you love that love you back. Self-care gives you more energy to keep going.

3. Set attainable goals each day.
The way to set yourself up for failure is to set daily goals that are unattainable. Break down a big goal into smaller goals and spread them throughout the week. For example, if your biggest goal is to know an NBA dance team better, use Monday for researching their team colors and Tuesday for studying the team management.
4. Find meaning in what you do.
Whatever you do for the auditions, always find meaning in it. Things can get boring or discouraging over time, but the meaning you attach to it will help you refocus. It’s important to think of the role that something plays in your life. For example, instead of just working out, try to keep in mind that working out doesn’t only help you have a fitter body, but it also makes you a happier person.
5. Plan ahead.
What am I going to eat today? Should I exercise at home or the gym? There are a lot of beginner workouts to try. Which one should I start doing first? Reduce that mental work. Decision fatigue happens when you overwhelm yourself with options. Better yet, plan your week to simplify.
