Stay Safe While Working Out [7 Exercise Safety Tips]
You already know how working out your body in preparation for upcoming auditions helps you. Working out boosts your mental and physical energy. It brings out your most glamorous version through skin improvement and weight loss.
As you start your fitness journey, it’s important to understand that exercising comes with risks. If you’re not careful, you can sustain an injury that puts you off the track.
Enjoy and make the most of your gym or at-home fitness sessions with these tips:
7 Workout Tips to Avoid Injuries
1. Start with low-intensity exercises.
If you’re just starting out, low-intensity workouts help your body prepare better for more challenging moves. A low-intensity exercise is one that allows you to carry on a conversation. Examples are swimming, beginner’s yoga, and walking.
2. Warm up and cool down.
Before a workout, warming up helps loosen your joints and reduce stress on your muscles. A 5-minute warm-up may include jump ropes, jumping jacks, and arm circles. Cooling down after a workout helps your body return to its normal state. You won’t feel as stiff and sore, unlike when you skip a 5-minute cool-down.
3. If you can afford it, hire a personal trainer.
Personal trainers specialize in giving out the best possible workout regimen that’s safe for their students. Think of hiring a personal trainer as a long-term investment. Not only will you engage in safe workouts, but you also become more accountable.
4. Stay hydrated during a workout.
Your body loses a lot of water when you sweat. You sweat more especially when it’s summer or you’re doing a marathon. Don’t forget to drink water before, during, and after a workout. Do it even if you’re not feeling thirsty!
5. Use a spotter if you lift heavy weights.
Workouts that involve heavy or advanced weights require that you enlist the help of others. Have a friend or gym buddy help support your weights in case you can’t complete a lift.
6. Wear the right shoes.
The right footwear makes all the difference in your workout performance. For running, choose a pair of shoes that absorbs shock and promotes stability. If you tackle rocky trails, choose shoes with thicker soles.
7. Be aware of the weather.
The heat and cold can affect your health. When you’re going for a run and it’s hot outside, wear light-colored and breathable clothing. Apply sunscreen. When it’s cold, dress in layers. You’ll need to experiment with the right combination of clothing depending on your exercise intensity.
