6 New Year's Resolutions to Increase the Success of Making Your Dream Pro Cheer Squad

Happy New Year! For aspiring pro cheerleaders that didn’t make their dream team’s auditions last year, now is the perfect opportunity to let go of negativities, reflect on what went wrong, and what should be improved upon this 2022.

With that said, use this list as an inspiration for resolutions to make that would help you get past audition rounds and become a bonafide pro cheerleader.

1. Practice dancing daily

An aspiring pro cheerleader’s dance skill level is the first thing judges, coaches, and squad managers look at during an audition. If you felt inadequate in your performance from last year’s audition, now is a great time to improve yourself as a dancer. You can do so by having as much as 2-4 hours of dance practice sessions as part of your daily routine.

2. Workout daily

It would be hard to give out your all as a dancer if you lack athleticism, flexibility, and stamina. This year, be physically prepared by allotting at least 30 minutes of your day to do some stretching, cardio, and strength exercises. The good thing about working out is that you’ll also get to build that pro cheerleader’s physique — another plus point for the audition rounds.

3. Follow a consistent and healthy sleep schedule

Without a healthy and consistent sleep schedule, you won’t have the energy and time for dance practices and for workouts. Last year may have been the time of your life when you didn’t put too much care into getting enough rest, let 2022 be different.

Put a conscious effort into keeping screened gadgets away and turned off before going to bed. Ditch bad nighttime habits such as drinking alcohol, smoking, and staying up late without purpose, and welcome new healthy ones like skincare routines and meditation.

4. Eating more healthy meals

Like exercising, your diet also plays a vital role in keeping your energy levels high and your physique well-maintained. Instead of mindlessly eating unhealthy foods such as takeout, keep a cookbook of delicious, filling, and healthy meals, and learn how to prepare them in your home.

Be familiar with cooking ingredients that are nutritious and avoid stocking your fridge and kitchen cabinets with ones that have empty calories.

5. Research more about proper pro cheerleading makeup and application

Although being a good dancer is paramount for pro cheerleading auditions, it’s even better to create a good first impression before entering the stage. You can do that by wearing the right style of makeup.

To know which styles are appropriate for pro cheerleaders, start by following pro cheer teams’ social media accounts. Don’t forget to also research the right audition outfits to buy for preparation.

6. Prioritize self-care

Lastly, you can never fulfill any new year resolutions if you’re shouldering a lot of stress. They may be from the previous year or new ones. As much as possible, cut off the toxicity from your life. Take a break when things get too overwhelming for you and give yourself time to do other things that would bring joy to your life.

New Year’s resolutions are hard to fulfill especially if they’re in contrast to your habits from last year and the ones before that. The best way to make these resolutions stick is by constantly reminding yourself of them. You can start by making a list of the resolutions you’ve made and set them as your phone’s wallpaper.
