7 Morning Routine Hacks for a Calmer Day

It’s no surprise that aspiring and current pro cheerleaders lead busy lives. Women in the pro cheer community scramble every morning to prepare for work, school, motherhood, upcoming auditions, or squad activities.

These hectic morning routines could often cause the following hours to be chaotic. Sometimes an important item would be missing from your bag ruining your entire day. Don’t allow things like this to happen. As early as possible, set your mood to be calm as your day goes by. Here’s what you should do.

1. Prepare everything you need the night before

Food, clothing, makeup, you name it. What you’ll need for the next day should be in a bag. If you’re going to the gym tomorrow to train for the auditions, a duffel bag containing a towel, workout apparel, shoes, deodorants, and extra underwear should be ready the night before.

2. Avoid your phone for 30 minutes

Have you ever wondered how one thing leads to another? A second of opening your phone right after you wake up would lead to a mindless scrolling session in bed. You check the time and voila, you’re already behind schedule to attend an audition prep class. Then, panic ensues.

If you use an alarm clock, get off the bed right after you hit the “dismiss” button and don’t pick up your phone. If your phone is your alarm clock, leave it where it is when you turn it off. Make use of the calmness in the morning. Utilize the time you have well. Don’t waste it by procrastinating.

3. Use an alarm that won’t startle you

Having a little time to get ready for the day would cause you to scramble and so does a startling alarm. Use an alarm clock, app, or tone that would gently wake you up — not something that makes you feel like you’re in the marine corps boot camp. Sounds of chirping birds, crashing waves, or rustling waves are good alarm sounds.

4. Turn on your morning playlist

Once you’ve gotten out of bed, turn on your favorite playlist on the speakers. Nothing sets the mood for a calm day better than hearing the songs you love to jam into. If you want, you can also play the music of your audition choreography to freshen up your mind and body for the upcoming performance.

5. Drink a glass of water and stretch

After turning your playlist on, drink a glass of water. It’s the best beverage to eliminate the grogginess and lubricate your body for a nice pre-workout stretching session.

6. Forgo coffee

Coffee may be a favorite morning beverage but it can cause heart palpitations and increased fatigue later on. If you want to feel calm throughout the day, don’t drink coffee or drink less of it. Better yet, go for a safer option like plain water or protein smoothie.

7. Get some sun

Letting your skin get touched by the warm glow of the sun signals your body to stop melatonin production, thus increasing your energy level. There are multiple ways for you to get some sun. You can go for a walk or jog around the block with or without your dog. You can also enjoy your cup of beverage outside your home where the early light touches.

After doing everything on this list, complete your morning by doing the rest of your routines without pressure. If you don't touch your phone after getting up from bed, you’ll have enough time to take a bath, do your skincare routine, cook breakfast, and pack your lunch.
