Pro cheerleading auditions may be far away, but that doesn't mean you can ignore preparation now. It's always a good idea to get ready early. The more time you spend investing in your audition day look and performance, the higher your chances of making the team.
Here are nine essential tips that help you in your prep journey.
1. Check the website of the team you want to audition for.
Every aspiring pro cheerleader has a dream team in mind. The first thing you should do is to get an idea of your team's requirements. When do they usually hold auditions? What are the requirements? Teams have a dedicated section on the sports league website.
2. Attend dance classes.
Professional cheerleaders do a lot of dancing, and with that, it's important to hone your dance skills. Dance classes increase your self-confidence. Great options for pro cheerleading include Jazz, Hip-Hop, Modern, and Ballet.

3. Find an outfit for your body type.

"What should I wear to the audition?" Many aspiring pro cheerleaders are confused about what to wear. The first thing to consider is whether your attire of choice meets the team's dress code. Next, pay attention to areas of your body that you want to cover or emphasize. Finally, pick a color that flatters you.
4. Set fitness goals throughout the year.
If you think you need to improve your fitness, set goals that will help you achieve it. Be specific about your goals. For example, you could plan to lose ten pounds by January or increase your workout time to 45 minutes in two weeks.
5. Be on the lookout for workshops and prep classes.
There are pro cheer teams and companies (run by former pro cheerleaders) that help you get a feel of the audition process. Always be on the lookout for classes and workshops that you can attend. They are opportunities to know the expectations of the judges and ways you should improve yourself as a candidate.
6. Plan your photo shoot.
One of the requirements for pro cheer auditions is a completed application form and a professional photo of yourself. You need a headshot and full-length photo. Look for professional photographers who are known for catering to aspiring pro cheerleaders. Be sure to check their work samples.
7. Find a diet that works for you.
There is no one-size-fits-all diet that supports your workout regimen. The best diet is one that you can follow consistently and nourishes your body. Choose a diet that's based on science, backed by tons of research, and supported by health professionals.

8. Practice in front of the mirror.
Whether you're practicing your dance moves, entrance, or speech, do it in front of the mirror. Mirrors teach you to move naturally. They remind you to smile and maintain eye contact with your audience.
9. Work on your self-confidence.
If you're the shy-type or have doubts about yourself, know this: Self-confidence can be improved over time. One thing that you should always do starting today is to visualize what you want to become. That is the first step to winning!
