Helpful Ways to Prepare for a Pro Cheer Audition Interview

Interviews an important part of the selection process during the auditions. They allow the judges to assess your knowledge of the team, your conversation skills, and how well you carry yourself! If you need help with interviews in case you nail the preliminary round, here is a list of ways you can prepare better. Ready?

Think about your strengths and what sets you apart from others.

What are the things I’m great at? What have been my accomplishments? Now is the time to ask yourself these questions. Recalling your strengths and achievements will help you craft responses that highlight them. They will say a lot about you. You’ll want to remember aspects that are closely related to professional cheerleading such as your dance experience, competitions you’ve joined, community involvement, or anything related to speaking in public.

Jot down a list of interview questions that might come up.

Anticipate!!! Spend time crafting possible questions that will be asked during the interviews. Examples of these questions include: Why do you want to become a professional cheerleader? Who is your role model? Do you know who the NFL commissioner is? How did you get interested in professional cheerleading? As you can see, such questions evaluate your knowledge of the sport as well as your interest in the squad.

Practice in front of the mirror.

It is not enough to think through the questions that might come up. Be sure that you can deliver your answers in a clear and confident manner! Rehearsing in front of the mirror is a tried-and-true strategy that improves your presentation style. You’ll want to see how you look like when you speak. You need to be careful of your facial expressions. You might appear nervous, angry, or scared. You definitely do not want that. When you fake a smile, which is important by the way, you also want that smile of yours to appear natural and charming.

Do a mock interview with a friend or family member.

Nominate a friend or family member who would be willing to do a mock interview with you. Do as many mock interviews as you can as this will make you get better at answering. Mock interviews will reduce your stress and anxiety, practice answering easy and tough questions, and help provide constructive feedback.

Improve your body language.

Your appearance is extremely important during the interviews. Appearance isn’t just about how well you dress for the interviews, but it’s also about specific body movements that can create a positive or negative impression about you. While listening and responding to questions, where do you place your hands? What should your posture and sitting style be? How do you maintain eye contact?

Visualize the interview going really well!

Last but not least, you need to visualize interview success. There is no better way to achieve your desired outcome than visualizing that you already achieved it. Visualization builds your internal motivation, and this translates to behaviors that lead you closer to your goal.
