How to Boost Collagen for Your Pro Cheer Skin

Did you know that collagen is the most abundant protein in your body? While it has many roles, perhaps the most obvious (and most sought-after) is its ability to make your skin look younger. That’s what we all want as aspiring and current pro cheerleaders.

You might not be aware of this, but there are certain factors that lead to collagen loss. These explain skin aging. Some of these factors include pollution, stress, and too much sugar consumption.

That is why in this article, I’m going to provide you with ways to boost more collagen for your skin. The good news is, you don’t have to spend a ton of money. Check out these simple tips that make a difference.

1. Bone broth

Bone broth is a bioavailable source of collagen. You make bone broth by simmering the animal bones in water in order to extract collagen. Bones from just about any animal will work. You could use beef, pork, turkey, lamb, and veal.

2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a nutrient that regulates the production of collagen. Thus, it is popularly called the “collagen builder”. You can supplement with vitamin C through capsules or fill your diet with vitamin C-rich foods! Broccoli, citrus fruits, and tomatoes are wonderful options.

3. Retinol

They say that retinol is your skin care hero. What is retinol, by the way? Retinol is basically synthetic vitamin A. According to dermatologists, it’s best to add retinol to your regimen only if you have reached your mid-20’s and are also suffering from breakouts. Research tells us that retinol can increase collagen production in your body, leading to fewer fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Collagen supplement

While your body produces collagen naturally, there’s no denying that supplementation helps! Supplements usually contain Types 1, 2, or 3 collagen. It could also be a combination of them.

When it comes to choosing the best supplement, look for hydrolyzed collagen. This is the most researched collagen and is also well absorbed. Also, you’ll want to pay attention to the ingredients list. Look out for added sugars, fillers, and gluten. Go for clean ingredients.

5. Leafy greens

Dark leafy greens are not just nutrient-dense, but they’re also a great way to add collagen to your diet. The best greens for collagen include spinach, kale, bok choy, and collard greens. Don’t overthink it! Consume these greens by prepping salads. In fact, you can combine lettuce and other collagen-boosting ingredients like oranges, grapefruit, egg whites, tomatoes, and cashews.

While you’re eating the right foods and taking a supplement for collagen production, follow this piece of advice: Practice good skin care habits. It’s never too early or late to start giving your skin the loving care it deserves. Drink plenty of water, cleanse before going to bed, and apply sunscreen.
