Skin-Smoothing DIY Face Scrubs You Can Make at Home
Do you want to know the secret to smooth skin? Today, I’m going to show you affordable DIY face scrubs you can make at your own home. Who knows? Maybe you already have some of the ingredients for the formulas below.
The benefits of facial scrub
As an aspiring or current pro cheerleader, facial scrubs will maximize the effects of your daily skincare routines. How? Facial scrubs remove dead skin cells, excess oils, and dirt which not only prevents breakout, but also allows your skin to absorb other products more effectively. As the dead skin cells from your body are exfoliated, you get a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion. When made and used correctly, DIY face scrubs will stimulate and boost the blood flow on your skin giving you a healthy and natural blush and glow.
4 DIY Face Scrubs
1. Papaya and Pineapple Peel
You will need:
- 1 papaya
- 1 tablespoon of pineapple juice
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of superfine sugar
How to make and apply:
Mash a ½ cut of papaya, 1tbsp. pineapple juice, 2tbsp. lemon juice, and 1tbsp of superfine sugar together. Apply it to your skin and let it stay for 20 minutes then rinse. Please take note to rinse it off sooner if you feel a slight sting on your skin.
Benefits:
The Papaya and Pineapple Peel isn’t technically a scrub but it’s still a gentle exfoliator for sensitive skin. The enzymes of the papaya and pineapple are rich in Vitamin C and A which smooth and brighten your skin without the need for scrubbing.
2. Kiwi and Yogurt Exfoliator
You will need:
- 1 kiwi
- 2 tablespoons of yogurt
- 2 teaspoons of olive oil
How to make and apply:
Peel the Kiwi skin and mash the fruit inside. Mix the mashed kiwi fruit with 2tbsps. of yogurt and 2 tbsps. of olive oil in a bowl. Rub the mixture gently in a circular motion around your face and then rinse.
Benefits:
Kiwi is high on Vitamins C and E which boost collagen production and moisturize your skin. This effect smoothens your skin reducing and removing fine lines. The yogurt also has lactic acid which exfoliates in a non-abrasive way making it kinder to sensitive skin.
3. Oatmeal and Yogurt Scrub
You will need:
- 2 tbsp. finely ground rolled oats (organic if possible)
- 1 tbsp. organic plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp. jojoba or coconut oil
- A coffee grinder or food processor
How to make and apply:
Grin the oats into a fine powder with a coffee grinder or food processor. Mix the powdered oats, yogurt, and oil in a bowl. Apply the mixture to your skin. It is important that your skin has been cleansed first before applying the scrub. Rub the mixture on your skin in a gentle and circular manner for a good 30 to 60 seconds. Rinse the scrub off with lukewarm water.
Benefits:
Jojoba is a lightly dense oil and adds skin moisture without clogging pores. Oatmeal also treats acne, removes dead skin cells, excess dirt, and oil which clogs your pores.
4. Apple and Honey
You will need:
- 1 ripe apple, peeled and pitted
- 1/2 tbsp. raw organic honey
- 1/2 tsp. jojoba oil
- Food processor
How to make and apply:
Puree the apple in the food processor but be careful it doesn’t turn into liquid-like. To make the honey easier to mix, arm the honey up in a microwave. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Apply the mixture to your face in a gentle circular motion for a good 30 to 60 seconds. Leave the scrub on your face for 5 minutes to utilize the moisturizing benefits. Rinse with lukewarm water.
If there’s a leftover mixture while you make the scrubs, store it in the fridge with an airtight container for future use. If you want, you can make scrubs with twice the ingredients so you have lots of reserved formulas.
