How To Prepare For A Virtual Dance Audition

The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been defeated yet and social distancing regulations are still in place. That means crowd gatherings such as auditions aren’t recommended yet. And despite vaccines being in circulation, there are still some distribution problems happening in the country.

This shows that there’s a high chance the audition of your pro cheer squad will be held virtually. Stay prepared for whatever changes may happen in your audition journey. Strive to showcase your best no matter what by following these tips.

1. Research

Know everything there is about the virtual auditions of your dream pro cheer team on their website. The dance style, outfit, music, video conference platform required, audition schedule, everything. Advanced research is key to proper preparation.

2. Set up your virtual audition space

Choose a room that’s spacious enough for dancing. Remove all visual distractions and obstacles such as cabinets and wall frames. Renovate the floor or repaint the wall if needed. Your room must look good on camera where the judges can capture the full beauty and athleticism of your dance moves.

3. Practice good stage presence

Just because the auditions will be held virtually doesn’t mean that you won’t need to act like you’re impressing a crowd. The audition judges will focus more on your showmanship behind the camera. That’s why you should develop good posture and confidence. Don’t ignore proper makeup application as well.

4. Prepare the best camera you have

You’re gonna want your end of the camera to appear as beautiful as it can on the judges’ screen. Using your phone is good because the latest models have beautiful capture qualities. Just make sure to buy the right tripod for it and clean the lens.

If you’re willing to go the extra mile, you can buy a streaming, GoPro, or a DSLR camera as a webcam.

5. Find the best angle in your space

Good camera angles for virtual auditions vary on the position of lighting, shape of the room, and color of the walls. To find the perfect spot to put your camera, use one extra device. The extra device is for viewing the perspective of the camera through the video conference.

It’s very important that the video conferencing app will be the one used at the audition day. Ask your dream squad’s in-charge about it. Then, ask someone for help to move your camera around the room during the angle-finding process.

6. Practice your routine well

Another audition factor that virtual auditionees tend to undermine is dance mastery. You can be confident that audition judges won’t be able to spot your mistakes. You could be right but don’t risk it. You might fall while dancing because you didn’t take your dance practices seriously. Exert the same effort for preparation and final performance as you would in a face-to-face audition.

7. Get used to dancing in your space

As I mentioned, you can fall on the floor if you haven’t practiced your routine well. Another risk that could lead to a dancing error is you aren’t used to dancing in the room where you’ll set up your camera. It’s best that you also choose the room for the virtual auditions as your dance rehearsal area.

That’s all you need to do to show your pro cheer dancing skills and athleticism for virtual auditions. As the big day comes, don’t forget to foster a positive mindset. Believe that everything will go right as long as you prepare well. Don’t forget to choose the perfect audition outfit and sleep well every night until the virtual audition day comes. Good luck!
