How to Set Fitness Goals You’ll Achieve (And Nail Pro Cheer Tryouts)

When it comes to getting fitter for pro cheer tryouts, the best time to start is NOW. Setting fitness goals is important because they increase your sense of accountability, boost your desire to achieve, and motivate you to push harder especially on days when you feel like giving up.

The key to achieving those goals is knowing how to set them. You might be focusing on goals that are too high based on your time frame. You might be setting goals according to what others think what’s best for you. These are just some of the many goal setting mistakes.

Today, I’m helping you set better goals with these tips. I want you to attain them so you can ace this year’s (or next year’s) pro cheerleading auditions. Dig in.

1. Create a fitness schedule that works with your lifestyle.

We see this scenario all the time. A night person who wants to lose fat sets an alarm for 5:00 am. At 5:00 am, she hits the snooze button, and regrets it later. She calls herself a failure. Most of us set goals that don’t really match our lifestyle. A better goal is one that fits into your normal schedule and preferences. You’ll find it easier to meet it.

2. Write down your goals and revisit them.

Why should you write things down when you can simply have them in your head? Well, your memory can be a leaky bucket. Even the best goals don’t remain for too long. If there’s one thing writing down goals does, it’s that it brings clarity and focus. So go ahead, write down your short term and long term fitness goals.

3. Set the bar low at the beginning.

If you’re just getting started with fitness for pro cheer auditions, set goals that are very accessible. For example, lifting weights for just five minutes, thrice a week. Our intention here is to turn your behavior into a habit. Creating a series of smaller wins helps you go for bigger ones.

4. Realize that you are your worst enemy.

Your worst enemy is yourself. You set very high expectations yet criticize yourself when you fail to meet them. You take your strengths for granted. When you accomplish something, you fail to appreciate it. Being more aware of yourself as your worst enemy shines a light on goal setting.

5. Focus on a few things at a time.

Imagine wanting to lose 3 pounds per week, develop abs, and increase your flexibility. While these goals are great, focusing on many at once will throw you off balance. Don’t set yourself up for failure by tackling multiple goals at a time. Pick one to three goals and explore those first.

6. Identify things that stopped you from achieving your goals in the past.

When you set fitness goals which you tried to reach in the past, it’s good to remember the factors that hindered you from achieving them. These can be your core beliefs, overconfidence, or even the fear of succeeding.

Sometimes, it’s not about the goals rather how you set them. Consider your lifestyle. Write them down. Set the bar low. Recognize yourself as your biggest enemy. Explore a few goals at a time.  Identify setbacks.  Do you have fitness goals now? I hope you follow these tips so that you actually achieve your goals and ace the auditions!
