Let Go of Your Disappointments and Focus on Your Pro Cheer Goals With These 6 Tips

During your pro cheer journey, you will encounter several setbacks that could cause you to pause and give up. These setbacks can either be caused by other people or yourself. To achieve the pro cheer career for aspirants and successfully become an alumnus for current pro cheerleaders, you must learn how to set aside the disappointments you’ll face.

You also have to keep on moving forward and redivert your attention from feeling disappointed to doing what needs to be done for pro cheerleading. Keep reading below to discover the strategies you should employ.

1. Face the truth of the situation

Awareness of your little shortcomings is the first step to letting go. This is because you’re opening yourself to changes. You can’t shrug off your inability to follow a healthy diet just because you exercise hard.

Failing to address that will make you too complacent of yourself which could add up your mistakes leading to a bigger disappointment that’s harder to manage. In this case, you gaining a lot of weight that would take time to lose.

2. Allow yourself to brood over your disappointments

When your expectations aren’t met, it’s okay to mope about them. Don’t be afraid to confront your negative emotions. The goal of brooding is for you to be a master of your own mind and take control of your life.

For example, if you’re brooding after struggling with how to apply makeup properly, ask yourself these questions:

  • Why am I sad about not mastering makeup application?
  • Is being sad for too long over this issue making me productive?
  • If not, what should I do to be better?

3. Remember how you got to where you are now

Sometimes there’s nobody else to blame for our shortcomings but ourselves. And oftentimes, we end up hating ourselves for a long time because of it. But there’s no sense in being stuck feeling like the victim because you always have the choice to move forward.

Try to remember all the major struggles you’ve experienced in your life and how you got past them. The solution to those setbacks could be the exact answer on how to get over the disappointments in your audition prep or pro cheer career. It’s called learning from experience.

4. Question your expectations and modify them

Disappointments happen mainly because we set too high expectations that we ourselves struggle to fulfill. If you think this is one of the causes of your problems, you need to set the bar just right. To do that, you must get to know yourself and your capabilities.

Pro cheerleaders are required to be highly-confident. But that quality cannot be attained overnight, especially if you’re a shy person. What you can do, however, is make a daily goal of talking to at least 20 people. When you’ve realized you can do it, then increase your quota.

5. Accept that nobody is perfect

Everybody makes mistakes that lead to self-disappointment. You’re not an exception. Some aspiring and current pro cheerleaders like you have also faced some difficulties in learning how to dance. What matters most as mentioned, is always choosing to move on, keep on learning, and do better.

6. Use your mistakes as motivation

Aside from using your mistakes as a lesson, you can also turn that into motivation. If you despise or are scared of being disappointed in yourself while pursuing the pro cheer career, then use those emotions to avoid the situation from happening.

For example, don’t like missing your morning workouts? Then use that feeling of dislike to motivate yourself into sleeping and waking up early.

Disappointments, just like any emotion, will come and pass. But the honor of being a bonafide pro cheerleader lasts for a lifetime. When disappointment comes, feel it for a while and use it as a lesson and motivation to do better in living the pro cheer life.
