6 Common Makeup Mistakes (And How to Fix Them!)

Have you ever wondered why your makeup doesn’t look perfect on your face no matter how expensive it is? The main reason for this is that your face isn’t well-prepped for applications. Sometimes, you’re using the wrong products, applying them the wrong way, and applying them in front of the wrong lighting. In this blog, we’re going to teach you how to do it right.

1. Not prepping your skin properly

It’s wrong to apply foundation immediately. Your makeup will not stick especially if you have oily skin. You must cleanse your face first, apply toner to moisturize and close your pores, and then apply a moisturizer. You can opt to use facial oil if you have really dry skin.

This skin prepping routine will keep your skin moisturized, make cosmetics application easier, give cosmetics a better hold to your face, and improve the look of makeup on your face.

2. Not changing foundation with age

The makeup brand that you once used in high school and college won’t work well with your skin once you’ve grown. As we grow older, our neck and facial skin becomes dry and loses its radiance. That is why as you age, your makeup should also change with you.

Instead of using powdered foundations, use creamier formulas.

3. Overwashing your face

Just like applying makeup on oily skin, very dry skin also ruins how makeup sticks to your face. And there’s one cause of that - washing your face too often and stripping it of its natural oils. All the makeup you apply to dry skin will be flaky.

You should only wash your face twice a day. Once in the morning before you prep your skin and apply your makeup. And once in the evening to remove your makeup before going to bed. If you have oily skin, use water-based moisturizers after washing your face and in your final face-prepping step to reduce skin oil production.

4. Applying makeup with the wrong lighting

Study first what kind of lighting there is in the event you’re going to. This will help you use the right makeup which would be flattering in the event environment. For example, if you’re going to the auditions and the venue is indoor, apply makeup under bulb lightings.

If you’re going to an event where you’ll expose yourself under the sun, then apply your makeup outside your home using sunlight.

5. Pulling your eye backward for eyeliners

This is one of the most common mistakes, especially when applying cat eyes makeup. By any means, don’t stretch any area around your eyes when drawing the perfect wing using eyeliners. You’ll break down sensitive skin around your eyes, its elasticity, and give yourself wrinkles.

The trick to drawing perfect lines is to use post-it notes, particularly the bookmark strip variety. Gently stick it to the side of your eye on the angle you desire and start drawing.

6. Drawing lines on your entire brow

Heavily drawn lines on your entire brow makes the softening and blending of the color pencil hard which then results in bad shapes and cartoonish shades that don’t match your hair color. Remember the rule: Less is always more.

Use an eyebrow pencil with a color that is a shade lighter or the same as your hair color. Draw lightly from the borrow of your brow and brush the shade upwards with a dedicated eyebrow brush. This creates an illusion of fuller color while not looking like a potential meme material.

Makeup is an art that every woman should know. It is essential for you to buy the right cosmetics, know how to use the tools, and know the proper preparation and application so that you can look beautiful on all occasions. Especially for auditions and live arena performances.
