Pro Cheer Advice: How To Have A Positive Body Image
Having a positive relationship with your body is important because it helps you to feel more confident and be at ease with yourself. Let me ask you right now: How do you feel about your current looks and who you are as a person? If you feel inadequate and awkward in your body, you might have a negative body image.
Whether you are still dreaming to become a professional cheerleader or are already one, you need to practice body positivity. Re-framing the way you treat and view your body will positively transform every area of your life.
Compliment yourself in the mirror.
You can be your own best friend or greatest critic depending on how you talk to yourself. Believe it or not, it will alter your reality. When you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night, compliment yourself in front of the mirror. Look into your eyes and speak words of compassion (out loud or in your mind) as if you're talking to a close friend. One of the positive affirmations to say to yourself is this: "I am perfect and special the way I am."
Create a list of things you like about yourself.
Today, I'd love for you to focus on the amazing things that your body can do. Make a list of these things. Don't focus on your physical appearance. Do you like the fact that you're able to high kicks? Dance gracefully? Swim? These things are worth appreciating. Remind yourself that the things you're able to do take you closer to your dreams in life.
Learn to eat more mindfully.
I've been approached by women who tell me that they did everything they could to lose weight, and they're tired of not getting results. So I ask them one thing: "Are you mindful of what you put into your body?" Loving your body means being attentive to the nutrients it needs. When you're overindulging in food that's laden with sugar, carbs, and bad ingredients, you're taking your body for granted. Eat at a table so you can focus your attention on the food. Put away your phone.
Do something nice to yourself.
You don't need to take an entire day off to care for yourself (although this would be an awesome idea). When you're a mom, you can be really busy. Simple ways you can let your body know that you value it include making time for naps, taking work breaks, drinking more water throughout the day, taking a warm bath, wearing an outfit that you really love on a regular day, and getting a massage.
