Should You Become A Pro Cheerleader? Here Are 5 Questions To Ask Yourself
Professional cheerleading is a great dream to chase and a fulfilling endeavor on top of work or school. But pro cheerleading is not all sunshine and roses. It comes with many responsibilities. There are also certain qualities that you need to possess to confidently say that you are meant for the pro cheer life.
If you are here because you're thinking of becoming a professional cheerleader, here are the 5 most essential questions to ask yourself:
Question #1: Do you have dance training or experience?
This is a basic question that all aspiring professional cheerleaders should ask. Pro cheerleaders spend a significant amount of time in dancing, and as a matter of fact, they are the most skilled and talented dancers on the planet. If you try to check most pro cheerleading teams to read each member's bio, you will notice that most members have loved dancing since they were little or have cheered in high school. However, if you don't have any experience or training in dancing, then you should be willing to invest time and money to take dance lessons.
Question #2: Can you communicate clearly and confidently?
Another ability that professional cheerleaders are known for is speaking. They're great communicators, and you'll often see them speak in media and in various community activities. Being a great public speaker will not only build your reputation but will also allow you to represent the football team really well. The good news is that public speaking can be practiced and mastered over time.

Question #3: Do you care about becoming your fittest self?
Just like any athlete you know of, professional cheerleaders stay in tip-top physical shape. Being physically fit allows them to maintain the required energy level to perform on the field and look great. Keep in mind that there is a difference between "fit" and "skinny." Fitness is the result of exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet. If you're willing to build the discipline and mindset that's needed to get fitter, you'll make a great pro cheer candidate.
Question #4: Do you give up on your goals too early?
Some professional cheerleaders, like myself, audition many times before being chosen as a squad member. For some women, it can take more than 5 years for them to fully understand what they need to bring to the table. It's easy to feel overwhelmed even months before the big day, and it's easier to talk yourself into giving up. Overwhelm usually happens when you compare your progress with that of another candidate's or due to life's stresses. But here's what you should remember: If you are serious about your dream of becoming a professional cheerleader, you should be ready and willing to fail over and over again.
Question #5: Do you love sports?
A professional cheerleader's main role is to represent their sports organization and support their efforts on the field or court. Also, your sports knowledge will be assessed during the interview round of the auditions. Now is the best time to ask yourself: "Do I love sports?" If your answer is no, are you willing to learn about the background and rules of the sport?
