The Best Clothing To Wear for Dance Classes and Practices

When exercising, we need to use the right equipment and wear the right clothing to maximize our workouts while staying comfortable. You can also say the same for dancing. Without the right apparel, you can get severely distracted during your sessions and can never perform at the same level your dance instructor expects from you.

This is a list of the clothes you should buy so you can practice and learn the best dance moves for pro cheerleading without difficulty.

1. Yoga pants and shorts

Your lower extremities move a lot during a dance. It’s important to wear something that isn’t restrictive. When it comes to sweat, your pants should also have the properties to wick away the moisture and allow air inside to cool your skin.

For these needs, yoga pants are your best choice. It’s okay to wear leggings, but they’re often too thin which could easily rip under intense physical activities. You can buy yoga pants almost at any fitness clothing store.

We also recommend buying light-colored yoga pants as they don’t absorb too much light and trap heat if you’re dancing under the sun. At times when you want to feel more freedom on your thighs and legs, you can opt to wear yoga shorts. Ask your squad manager first if it’s okay to do so.

2. No-wedgie panties

The problem with dancing is that your underwear rides up to the point it becomes itchy or uncomfortable to make additional motions. Boyshorts panties or no-wedgie panties are a huge help to keep your focus during a class or practice because you don’t have to pull your skivvy down all the time.

Another important tip: Bring an extra pair of underwear because you’re sure to be sweating once your practice or class is done. Don’t know where to buy no-wedgie panties? Visit this list.

3. Comfortable, supportive, and lightweight shoes

If your arms and legs do most of the movement during a dance, it’s your feet that receive the impact of your dancing. Without the right footwear for dancing, you’ll subject your feet to a lot of stress. This could lead to foot injuries and negatively affect the rest of your body. Visit this list to find the best shoes for your dance needs.

4. Medium-thick foot socks

Your foot will also accumulate the most heat during physical activity. That’s why we recommend wearing foot socks that aren’t too thick nor too thin. Thick foot socks might be more comfortable but your feet will heat up quicker when wearing them. They aren’t ideal when it comes to breathability as well.

Thin foot socks are highly breathable. The problem with them is that your feet will be sliding a lot when you wear your shoes. We recommend these yoga socks so that your feet will remain comfy with or without a shoe.

5. Polyester shirts

Like yoga pants, polyester shirts allow your upper limbs to move in full-range motions due to their high stretchability. They’re also highly breathable for the quick drying of your sweat. And depending on the color of the shirt, it can easily hide armpit sweat that gross others out. We recommend this shirt for keeping you dry after doing all kinds of pro cheer activities.

6. Loose cotton sleeveless shirts

Not every dancer likes fit clothing, some prefer to dance with oversized cotton sleeveless shirts for maximum breathability. This type of shirt is also common in pro cheer teams that focus on hip-hop dance genres. You don’t need to buy loose cotton sleeveless shirts. You can just cut the sleeves off from your brother, spouse, or father’s shirt.

7. Supportive and breathable sports bra

And lastly, we’ll never forget the greatest fear women face when dancing - a nip slip. The right sports bra must provide your bosom with all the support it needs to stay in place as you swing yourself in all directions. It also must be highly breathable. We couldn’t find a well-rounded product other than this.

It’s important to note that as a current cheerleader, the dress code of your dance practices would change depending on the management’s decision. Dance dress codes also vary from team to team. Before buying any new dancewear, make sure to consult with your squad to avoid wasting money.
