The Best Fitness Activities To Do This Fall Season
Fall is the season of change. It is the time of the year where everyone in the northern hemisphere of the western world prepares for the coming of the cold. That means we should slow everything down and start to spend most of our time getting cozy at home.
While that idea is good, we as members of the pro cheer community need to interpret the season of change from a different perspective. Instead of changing our daily routines to a more relaxed one, we should change our fitness plans to fit the season of autumn.
Here are some fitness activities you should put in your planner to stay fit until the 21st of December.
1. Hiking/Trekking
Going for a day hike or a trek/overnight camping can be done year-round, except for winter. But the best time to really enjoy the outdoors is during the fall season. Why? It’s because the climate isn’t hot compared to spring or summer. It’s just perfect.
Because of that, you don’t easily get tired and are at a very low risk of having a heat stroke. Plus, you get to enjoy the changes in the surrounding foliage and the clear view of the countryside.
2. Trail Runs
Take your outdoor adventures to the next level by incorporating running into your hikes. This strategy is a great way to increase your focus, stamina, balance, and muscle density due to the challenge of uneven ground and changing elevation.
3. Flag Football
For members of the NFL pro cheer community, this is a fall activity that you can enjoy because it’s very popular among women. Unlike the football we know, this variant has simple rules, can be played anywhere, and requires little equipment. You can play a match with your family, friends, and squadmates at the park or in a spacious backyard.
4. Biking
If you want to feel the wind of the autumn climate instead of slow-paced walking, we highly recommend mountain or road biking. Mountain biking is the best at increasing the power of your lower body while road biking greatly improves stamina.
However, mountain biking is a more efficient option when it comes to losing weight. I personally love downhill mountain biking due to the thrill it provides me. If you do decide to cycle, invest in protective gear to minimize injuries in case of a mishap.
5. Pumpkin Hunting
Although pumpkin hunting is not a legitimate sport, finding the perfect fruit for your fall meal prep or Halloween jack-o’-lantern is still a great form of workout. Why? Because it gives you the opportunity to do squats, walk around a patch, and lift your heavy harvest provided that you don’t use a cart.
6. Completing a corn maze
We know that getting lost in a corn maze can put one into a state of panic. But that’s just at the start. Once you walk for hours or start to rush for an escape, your heart starts pumping fast which leads to a higher calorie burn rate per minute.
7. Crop Harvesting
Does anyone in your family own a farm? Take the opportunity to sweat out by reaping the fruits (or in this case, crops) of the family labor. Not only will you have a lot of fresh healthy food to eat during the season, but you’ll also get to break away from the air pollution of urban environments and the toxicity of social media. If you don’t have relatives who are farmers, volunteer to help a friend with a family who runs a farm.
Which activities do you find interesting on this list? Write them down in your journal and create a plan and schedule so you’ll never forget to do them. Invite others as well to make the experience merrier.
